Re:Storing data on my own computer.
Dear A/C-
Thanks for visiting my website. Sorry you didn't like it.
Too bad you don't know the difference between 'dribble' and 'drivel'. Who the heck are you, Ali G? Are there really springs in those balls?
You should take a look at my story about the car show there aren't a lot of words to read. You might do better with that one. -
reposting someone elses comment.
It was already +5. *sniffle* It's the most insightful thing I've read all week. Brings a tear to my eye and made me want to salute our flag!

Furry Wookie- this is not pointed at you directly...but at something you said which sounds like what a ton of other people are saying:
"...take control of your life..."
A lot of the MS vs. (everyone else) debate sounds like this.
My life? How is an anti-spyware tool on my computer going to really affect my life? Or how is my computer going to help me take control of my life?
My computer is just a stupid, noisy, power-sucking box that sits on the floor. I am the one that gives it life, not the other way around. Whatever operating system it runs doesn't really affect my life at all- I just use the thing.
Just like the hedge trimmers I bought last weekend- I went to the store, bought some, and used them. It wasn't a decision that would affect my life- just those few moments as I trimmed the bushes.
My whole point is...don't confuse a computer with real life. Real life is about people, love, adventure, relationships, hardships and successes.
Computers are about reading e-mail, and surfing for porn.

Re:And what if they don't recycle?
Well, actually a LOT happens when you throw the computer/monitor (or television) in the Dumpster in California.
Because I am somewhat of a freak, I have actually toured our local dump, and asked these very questions.
First, the money that California collects goes to the local landfills. Each landfill becomes a collection point for these electronic devices. They also set up collection points throughout the city. Disposing of electronic devices (new or old) is now free...(because of the tax.)
The landfill collects these things, and then calls in a contractor (hired by the state) who will pick this stuff up, and recycle as much as possible. Then they will dispose of the rest of it properly.
So, the consumer can bring their stuff directly to the dump (special containers) for free, or to other drop-off points.
Now let's say you live in an apartment, or you have a dumpster behind your business. The garbage trucks (which are private contractors) come and pick up the garbage. When they drop the stuff off at the dump, there is actually a guy who does a quick check of the contents of the dump-truck. If there is anything like a monitor or computer, they write down the number of the garbage truck (which has to log in/out of the dump) and they charge that company (the trash hauler) a fine for improper dumping. They also pull the monitor aside for proper disposal. I have seen this in action, and it actually works. (The same rules apply for things like mattresses, and couches, which can screw up the way that a dump works.)
So, there is a good chance that the stuff will eventually be disposed of properly.
If you dump the stuff in the garbage cans in front of your house, they will note the garbage truck number and start to look for a pattern. And if it continues for a few weeks, they will actually send someone out to find out which house the load came from...and see if you are throwing things away improperly. Who knows what happens then...maybe they'll stop picking up your trash or something...but the people I talked to said it has never gotten that far. -

Re: Stealing Pictures
I run a site (see my sig) which has about 55 different pages on it. As I look at my site statistics, I see that most of my visitors only view one page. Of course this could mean that they don't like it, so they leave. That's okay. But, my number one referrer is actually Google IMAGES. So I guess that a lot of people are coming just to steal a picture, then they leave.
Don't tell me, let me guess; it's this image, right?
Or maybe this one? -

Re:Contrinutions
Well, there are three reasons to explain this-
#1- in a game like Halo 2, the sooner you get on Live, the better it is for you. Anyone who started playing even just a few weeks after launch was at a huge disadvantage, because so many players would have a lot more experience, and it would be difficult to move up in the rankings. (This excuse is MOSTLY bullshit)
#2- Something like the Halo 2 launch was more of a 'convention of nerds' than an actual product launch. We got to hang out with other geeks, and see who else in town was lame enough to actually wait around for a video game. You can read about the launch party in my town.
#3- the cachet of just having been there. When people ask me "do you have Halo 2?" I can say "I've had Halo 2 since 12:01 on November 9"
Yes, every single reason is just pure geek. I'm okay with that. I've never stood in a long line for a movie, I don't like to wait in a long line for a ride at amusement park. I don't like to wait at restaurants, etc etc. I guess the only thing I am really interested in waiting for now is the next Xbox, and probably Halo 3 to go along with it.
