Re:Still a little bit expensive
I would, but mine shut down recently.
The owner blamed it on pirated music, but I think he was just looking to blame those damn kids - I think it's more likely that when he opened his store, the only cd stores around were sam goody and musicland, or whatever was in the mall, and those places were selling CDs at $21.99/ea. Now, there's a best buy, a circuit city, and three super walmarts that have popped up in the area, not to mention online stores that cater to his demographic.
You can see my friend's blog on the subject. -
Music Downloading for the Rest of Us.
I think that we need to go back to mass f2f (friend to friend) trading of bootlegs and cassette tape copies, you know, get a whole group (like 500 or so.) of people to burn a cd or tape, get off of their computers, and meet in a public place and just trade with each other, or just do it like we did in the early 90s when America discovered Grunge (Nirvana, Perl Jam, etc) from friend to friend through a combination of word of mouth and cassete copies. I think the RIAA wont even touch this with a ten foot pole. Of course, I can sort of imagine little music riots if the RIAA does try to touch it with said pole. P.S. There are plenty of bands who are willing to sell you their music. Try them. Also, for the more daring there is a place to go for some choice tracks.

Re:Looks Good
Also, congratulations to all who have not purchased CD's in protest. Keep up the good work.
Please quantify this: Don't buy music from big labels. When appropriate, go to see artists in person and buy CD's from the guy with the mohawk and the piercings behind the merch table. Elsewise, buy from the record label, or at the worst, a low level distributer.
Some labels i've bought from recently:
vagrant records
hopeless records
fearless records
and a low level distributer: interpunk
Yeah. If you can give money to the artists more directly, do so. Remember, we're not mad at the content producers, we're mad at the middle men and the big labels.

Re:Passing Savings to Consumers
Ok, they are members of the RIAA, that doesn't change the fact that most CDs are about $12 and usually include a free sampler, poster, or sticker.
Check out Interpunk I've been ordering from them for over two years. CDs are usually $10-$12, they carry local bands, shipping is cheap, and their service is excellent. I've never had an order take longer than 24 hours to go from ordered to shipped. I feel sorry for those that are paying $15-$20/CD.

Re:Geek Love
This may be a little offtopic, but I couldn't help my self. There's this little pop-punk band from Allentown PA called Digger who wrote a song called Geek Love, just thought I'd share the lyrics with you all.
Geek Love by Digger
I was wondering what you would think
of a stupid guy like me
'cause I was thinking it might be real cool
to be with a popular girl like you
you don't even look at me in school
what can I do
to get you to notice me
'cause I always notice you
I guess I was always way too short
I was never any good at sports
I don't want a letter on my shirt
I don't want to be just like Kurt
I want to be your man
I want to hold your hand
I want you to be my girlfriend
we could be a team, oh baby
we could be ok
we don't have to hear what they think
so why should we care what they say
we could go to the movies
get some popcorn and an icee-freeze
oh well I guess that that's ok
I forgot what I was going to say
doesn't really matter anyway, hey hey
I could call you on the phone
nobody has to know
maybe I could walk you home from school
that would be my dream, baby
please, that would be so cool
you don't have to tell anybody
you can still treat me like a fool
I might just be a geek
but I'm a geek in love with you
geek love
sorry to waste all you guy's (and gal's) time, if you are really curious about this band they are on Hopeless Records and you can buy all their CDs from either the label site or from interpunk.
Okay, mod me down now... -
Metal and other such stuff...
I'm not really a metal kid(more into punk and emo) but you should checkout some of these bands:
Old Cave-In: Until your heart stops is one of the best metal CDS ever.Coalesce,Combat Wounded Veteran, Isis,Nhile,Pig Destroyer, Discordants Axis(sic),Purity's Failure, Converge, Bane and a bunch of other bands like that. You can get all this stuff at Interpunk or No Idea Records which is definatley cheaper($6-8 a CD).
