Re:Sept. 11
Well, yes (need more taps outside the USA) and no (they do not need more inside the USA).
Good article on the topic of tossing them too much power here:
Clarence Page: Fix FBI's culture gap first
In this case, it sounds like they are just using existing powers and capabilities, nothing new. But that "Patriot Act" needs to get canned quick. -
Re:Sounds like a great idea.....
Actually 73 countries haveratified it so far. Japan did so today . And all 15 EU states have ratified it as well.
This is simply incorrect. I'd suggest you look up the difference between `sign' and `ratify', and then go back and read your own article. 73 nations have signed the treaty, but far, far fewer have ratified it. Under the EU agreement, all EU nations have indeed now agreed to ratify the pact, but it has no legal impact until they do so and enough other nations to make up 55% of the world's emissions do so.
those nations using the most pollution-heavy technologies
What, you mean the US?No, the US pollutes less per capita or per production than almost any other nation on Earth -- we just produce more than most. In comparison, many less developed nations, such as China, which make up a huge percentage of the world's emissions, are not even restricted by the treaty.
a US economy which is producing less pollution every year anyway, the treaty offers nothing
That's news to me. Care to share your source? This article is a good place to start.
-
Re:Can We Callanmge the SEC and FAASB?

San Francisco's "Housing Farce"
For anyone interested in San Francisco's rent situation, you might find these two articles, by Thomas Sowell, to be interesting: The Housing Farce and The Housing Farce, Part II.

Re:Clink you chains
They would rather have a comfortable slavery.
isn't it interesting that the congresspersons working so hard to exploit this crisis are current or "allegedly former" KKK members (e.g. Robert Byrd), confederate flag flyers and 'darkie haters' (Fritz Hollings), and other exploiters? (Anyone who thought Democrats limited their exploitation to trailer trash women and easy 'JAP' interns really doesn't get it)
watch out when these Klansmen comes out proposing to modify the constitution for our /protection/.
you 'darkies', to use Holling's favorite term for non-whites, get it yet on how they want to protect you? how's that burning cross on your lawn? wearin a diaper on your head? fritz and byrd have a limb for ya. ol' fritz will bring us back to the good ol days of low crime and instant justice, making it a great nation for white male. -
Re:this is really bringing me down
I was forwarded a link to this interesting article back in January: After Tight Race, Bush Should Race To Space like JFK. James Pinkerton argues that Bush should use a space initiative, perhaps something like "people to Mars within a decade", in order to give momentum to his presidency that he didn't get by winning in a landslide.
Unfortunately it looks like Bush isn't following Pinkerton's advice :( It's not clear to me whether Bush is actually doing the opposite and cutting funding, though. -
black and union-member republicans.I think you're confusing hostility towards blacks with hostility towards certain liberal black causes. For instance, you claim Rush shows hostility towards blacks, but Rush Limbaugh's usual guest host for many years was Walter Williams, a black conservative. Thomas Sowell is another prominent black conservative. There are many others. If anything, the current situation is the abberation; historically speaking the Republican party was the party that represented the interests of blacks. When the party was founded many people called it the Black Republican Party as it was tied that firmly to the Abolitionist movement.
A little web-surfing finds the claim that 40% of the UAW typically votes Republican. And according to this link a Gallop poll at one point in the campaign found 30% of union members intending to vote for Bush, 61% intending to vote for Gore.
So just because you can't imagine black or union members voting republican, doesn't mean they don't do so.
(as for me, I vote libertarian)

Re:Been done here for ages, and it works.Do you really need statistics to know that blacks don't vote republican? Why should they? It's like commiting suicide. It's like a union member voting republican you might as well cut your head off.
Lots of union members vote republican. The fact that somebody belongs to a union doesn't mean they LIKE belonging to a union. The interests of the union management and the interests of the rank-and-file are only sometimes in accord. Other times people are stuck paying dues to a union that supports candidates they dislike. And there are a lot of black republicans too. They may not be in the majority but their numbers are significant. (Didn't Bush get about 30% of the black vote this time around?)

Elder votes Browne(was:Scooby votes Nader!)Have a look at Larry Elder's "Why I'm "wasting" my vote" at http://www.jewishworldreview.co m/c ols/elder.html:
I intend to vote for Libertarian Party presidential candidate Harry Browne. Many say I waste my vote. You've heard the argument -- vote the lesser of two evils. But at his brother Robert's funeral, Ted Kennedy quoted his late brother: "Some men see things as they are and say 'why.' I dream things that never were, and say 'why not.'"
I say "why not."

Re:Thank You!!!
Where is my evidence?!?! Just watch any so called news show! Here are some examples:
- The Daily Show ripped on GW for 10 minutes while only giving minor jabs to AG which only lasted the first 30 seconds.
- I happen to have the TV on while The Practice was on last week and they took a jab at GW there.
- The whole issue of Bush being dumb was started by the media. There is no basis for it.
- David Letterman's political monologue (sp?) is 90% about Bush being "dumb"
- Jay Leno "comedy" is just as poor.
- All the news shows either give as much good coverage about Gore as they can , or as much bad coverage to Bush as they can. You will never see a fair comparison of candidates, on any of the top 3 networks(CBS,NBC,ABC) especially.
- As far as fair play goes, read this article. The FCC is getting into the action. If this doesn't sound the least little bit suspicious, than you are not capable of seeing the obvious.
And as far as lies go, try checking out the ones spewing forth from the hole of Algore. Check the claims of AG, escpecially the things he claimed in the debates. Almost everything he said was lies. He made claims about doing things and being places. When the actual facts were checked, he had never been to those places and never did the things he had claimed. And for once the media reports it and then people like you and CT cliam the media is biased.
I find it ironic that a lot of people on this forum complain about the intrusion of our lives by the government, about censorship and about rights being taken away from us, but it is the liberals that are doing it to us! AND YOU DEFEND THEM! -
Re:Violations of online rights
What I don't get (and this is NOT a troll!) is why the knee jerk reaction to every bad law is "It's the Republican's fault!" WTF? Last I knew, it was the Dem's in Hollywood's pocket, the people that brought you RIAA and MPIAA and all the other AA's that are out there, as well as the DeCSS lawsuit.
Yeah, the Republican's brought us the War on Drugs. So what? Yeah, they wanted the death penalty. SO WHAT? (Name me a single criminal that committed a crime AFTER his execution! I don't think you can, can you?)
Oh, but wait, they're all RICH Texan Oilmen... See, it's OK to say that because you're not talking about RICH Tennessee Oilmen, who made their millions through Occidental Petroleum in shady deals.
The Dem's sell out just as regularly as everyone else. As for the Wrong Reverend Jesse Jackson, maybe when he gets off his duff and starts talking about the slavery and exploitation going on in Sudan, I'll give him a pat on the back. Until then, he gets nothing. He sure can dummy up quick when opening his mouth goes against the party line, can't he?
Carnivore is being pushed by the Clinton (Democratic) FBI. They also fought long and hard against encryption, and only gave up when even THEIR thick skulls figured out it wasn't a battle they could win.
If you want to protest, do it at the DNC convention. Isn't it kind of funny that the Republicans are holding their convention at the City of Brotherly Love while the Dem's are holding theirs in LA. Which one is that again? Sodom or Gomorrah? Although I personally wouldn't have minded an invite to the Playboy Mansion for the Dem. fundraiser... Not that you would see AlGore and the rest there... They'll take the money, but they don't want to be SEEN socializing with "those types" of people.
Bah... What a waste... I just KNOW this will be mod'd down. After all, it's a diatribe against everything I'm against. Following the crowd instead of following the issues.
-
Re:What's the point?

Re:Give me a break
Oh yeah, American values. A country founded by rich white lawyers and land owners so they wouldn't have to pay their government their taxes. This is what we (Americans) were from the beginning.
I hate to tell you sonny, but it was alot more then that. It's sad to see where america as gone since it was founded by those great men. Those signer's of the Declaration of Independence signed it knowing that death was almost surely a result. Could you have done it? I doubt it. Hell, I doubt I could. Don't believe that the signers suffered? Read this ( the DrudgeReport always has good links FWIW ). Before you start spouting off and whining about "rich white lawyers and land owners", maybe you should remember that they died and lost their land and fortune so YOU wouldn't be a british SUBJECT. And instead, a free man. Now, if you're not as free as you'd like, blame the people, but NOT the founders.
(Paid for by the Coalition to Point Out to Jon Katz that he is a Soft American.)
