Re:This just in!
Rather than mod you down for what is likely an innocent mistake, I will just point to his bio on http://www.jimmycarterlibrary.org, which doesn't mention nuclear engineering. I know he "trained for the position of engineering officer in submarine USS Seawolf, then under construction." and "Carter completed a non-credit introductory course in nuclear reactor power at Union College starting in March 1953" from reading his wikipedia page but that isn't the same thing.
While he is familiar with some aspects of being a of nuclear engineer, he is far from actually being one. Thought you might want to know. And yes, while he is probably a nice guy, he was arguably the least effective president in the last 100 years, so he usually isn't a good example to hold up for any comparison.

Ah-hemmm.GWB
... graduated from Yale in 1968 with a B.A. in History .
Reagan earned a BA degree in 1932 from Eureka (Ill.) College, where a photographic memory aided in his studies and in debating and college theatricals.
OTH, the last president to keep us out of war was Jimmy Carter:
received a B.S. degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1946...graduate work at Union College in reactor technology and nuclear physics, In fact, you will find that most presidents that kept us out of war had really served in the military (not fake like W), and typically had a science/engineering degree.
As to lack of books, well, a simple Google once in a while would work just as well for you. You may find out more than you think. -
Malaise speech?
This speech? I keep hearing how it cost him the Presidency, but I don't see what's so wrong about it. It seems to be saying that yes, we have challenges and problems, and here's how we're going to deal with them. A damn sight better than Reagan's mindless ego-stroking to convince us that we had no problems to deal with.

I want to cry.Ah, yes, who could have understood that we were addicted to foreign oil back in 1980?
Oh. Right. The crises in Iran and Afghanistan have dramatized a very important lesson: Our excessive dependence on foreign oil is a clear and present danger to our Nation's security. The need has never been more urgent. At long last, we must have a clear, comprehensive energy policy for the United States.
I'm going to go cry into my beer now. -
Nukeyewlar
Most slashdotters are too young to remember, but Former President Carter also uses that annoying pronunciation. And he has an advanced degree in nuclear physics (as well as having been a submarine guy)!

Re:Indian president is a technocrat..
I fail to see any rocket scientists holding the Presidency in the USA in its entire history. Or any scientists, after B.F., for that matter.
Even assuming that "political science" doesn't count for some reason, you don't have to look too far to find one.
The most recent scientist U.S. president would probably be Jimmy Carter, who "was educated in the Plains public schools, attended Georgia Southwestern College and the Georgia Institute of Technology, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1946. He later did graduate work in nuclear physics at Union College."
The president of the United states being a former nuclear engineer was considered a major asset in resolving the Three Mile Island crisis safely.
P.S. If you're so fscking smart, how come you're not running for - and winning - the Oval Office?
P.S. BTW, ability to speak fluently is in no way related to intelligence.
Clearly being smart and an ability to speak fluently is not a prerequisite to running for- and winning- the Oval Office.

PS: Assuming B.F. stands for Ben Franklin, well, he was never president. -
Re:nucular???
Since Pres. Carter was a Democrat he was painted as a southern hayseed for it instead of an idiot as Pres. Bush get's libeled.
Gee, I don't know... Let's look at the accomplishements, shall we?Carter: recevied BS from US Naval Academy in 1946. Did graduate work in Nuclear Physics. Worked up to Lieutanant under Rickover and helped with the development of the US Navy nuclear submarine force. Retired from the Navy in '53, ran family farm. Camp David Accord, Panama Canal Treaty, reestablishment of relations with PRC, SALT II. Deregulated energy, transportation, communications, and finance sectors. Author of 16 books. Nobel Peace Price winner, 2002. More info here.
Bush, G.W.: BS, Yale University 1968. Served in Texas Air National Guard as pilot. MBA, Harvard University 1975. Started own energy company, was part-owner of Texas Rangers baseball franchise. Sucessful miltary engagements in Afganistan and Iraq; cut federal tax rate - twice. More info here.
I'll slip into troll-territory here but Bush is well-known for getting poor grades at Yale and getting into Harvard Business School via family connections. To me the comparison between Carter and Bush transcends this simple argument though; one is a tireless nobel peace prize winner, the other a former baseball team owner. 'Nuff said.

September 11th
I've already posted this in the earlier topic, but it's a bit buried.
The date itself indicated that this is probably a Palestinian action. September 11th is the mean date of the Camp David Accords, which essentially ended the conflict between Egypt and Israel and indirectly lead to the current conflict there. -
September 11th
There are reports that this attack is a commemoration of the signing of the camp david accords. Which were worked out from September 5th to 17th (the 11th is the average date).
