Re:8/10ths, and I am sadThe text entry widget is broken.
I tried a nightly build (MacOS) a few weeks ago and ran into this problem. I couldn't believe they could ship a release with that bug so I when I read your post I downloaded a 0.8 package. Same problem - picture here. And Windows has the same bug? Unfreakingbelievable. Doesn't anyone use this thing?
Meanwhile, if they would just fix Mac IE's stability, it would be perfect. And Konqueror from recent CVS is perfectly usable, including for online banking and JavaScript-heavy sites. Plus it has a much more fun feel to participate in - it's a hacker project, the developers respond to bug reports promptly, I feel like I'm welcome in their community and the project advances visibly each day instead of slowly spiraling into oblivion.

Nothing new hereIt's hard to be more reactionary than this. Months used to reflect the lunar cycle. (Why do you think we have months, and a seven day week that doesn't evenly divide into our current months?) The missing day screws things up, though, which is where leap years come in. (Flansburg is a few thousand years behind the curve here.) You can let the calendar drift (Islamic religious calendar), add leap months every other year or so, even after abandoning the 28 day month (Jewish), or use a calendar that works effectively given a simple rhyme about month lengths and a simple rule about leap years.
Incidentally, when the metric system was introduced after the French revolution, they tried to implement decimal time as well. It failed because of religious objections, and didn't catch on until Battlestar Galactica.
I'll take the opportunity to plug my KDE Jewish calendar software here.

Here's one
I got fed up with having to read man chmod every time I needed to setuid a file and wrote a front end to chmod to do exactly what you describe. Check it out if you have trouble, say, getting your mind around octal permissions.
