Re:The need to redesign the UI from scratch
I don't see either how they could make a game out of the current version. Perhaps they'll revise the interface eventually, Lively uses the Gamebryo engine so it should be easy to implement more game-like functionalities.
I like Lively though personally I use it primarily as a chatroom. It can also be an interesting place to test one's creativity, in spite of the limitations some people have come up with some cool ideas to make use of the various objects and shells (the rooms).
By the way: [Kevin Hanna's room on Lively - number of visitors: 2] oops! he needs to log in more often

I've already created a game using Lively....
I've hidden a geocache inside my room(s) starting at http://www.lively.com/dr?rid=-8673303648343481619 It's part of a geocaching.com puzzle cache you can see at: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=089d9a0e-5747-48d8-aedb-ebb8d284e57a

Re:directx was a mistake
I'm going out on a limb here: I've looked at the system reqs but I'm still not seeing DX as a requirement. You're the third person I've seen say something like this (one was a claim that it was IE only) and I'd honestly like to see the money go into the mouth on this one.

Supported browsers and platforms
Wasn't there a story on
/. just yesterday, featuring a Mozilla employee bitching about a proprietary web?But I suppose limiting Lively to IE and Firefox (on Windows only!) is okay when the product is made by your sugar daddy. Nothing wrong with proprietary by Google, no sir.
Burn, karma, burn!

Sometimes I love our webfiltering...
"You cannot access the following Web address:
http://lively.com/The site you requested is blocked due to a Malicious Web Reputation."
What already?

Of course, the most visited island? Sex Island
A bare island. Whoda thunk it?

I had to tag this 'wtf', it's so unlike them
It even makes use of Facebook accounts.
And Vista/XP only, while still being browser based.
Also, it's not really a Second Life competitor since you can't create stuff, part of what makes SL unique. It's more like just chat rooms.
