Re:Congress can Butt Out.
Texas doesn't. That's an urban legend. What Texas did have the right to do was to be split into 4 smaller states. They've never exercised that right. But they never had the right to leave alltogether. Here's the exact resolution that joined Texas to the union:

Re:That's great
He said Southerners, but he sounds like a Texan to me. There it might actually happen like that; they were the most "Yeah, State's Rights!" as opposed to "Yeah, State's Rights (because it lets us continue slavery)!" of the Confederates. And people of all races born there feel the same way. My only response to that then is: im in ur republic, yanking up your hideaway.
Umh, sure... Have you read the articles of secession? The Texas ordinance is entirely about slavery. It mentions slavery 21 times.
"She was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery--the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits--a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time. Her institutions and geographical position established the strongest ties between her and other slave-holding States of the confederacy. Those ties have been strengthened by association. But what has been the course of the government of the United States, and of the people and authorities of the non-slave-holding States, since our connection with them?"
"If I owned Texas and Hell, I would rent Texas and live in Hell"

Re:Apple Leads Again
Ok, I'm going to drop this and chalk it up to semantics.
Before I leave it however, I'd like to make a deal with you. I'll gladly pass along any hopeful filters I come across. You, being so clued to Apple's momentum, should be able to tell me when they're about to tank so I can dump their stock. If you have Apple that firmly in your sights, I'm going to start calling you William Tell. ;) -
Re:There are camels in the US (OT)
You don't dissapoint me at all
:)
I'm trying to find some references on this. Here's one:
http://www.fao.org/DOCREP/003/X6528E/X6528E01.htm
In Italy, Spain, South Africa and Texas in the USA camels were also introduced as pack animals, but they soon disappeared.
So maybe they didn't dissapear completely? Another one:
http://www.lsjunction.com/facts/camels.htm
The camels fell into Confederate hands at the beginning of the Civil War, then back to the Union Army in 1865. Most were sold at auction in 1866. A few escaped into the west Texas desert and are known to have survived until late in the nineteenth century.
PS: I'm really not doubting what you're saying, I'm just trying to find something which confirms it. Of course, that something may not exist on the web... -
Re: Nice?
What little water was trapped inside caused a massive steam explosion that blew hot dirt for a radius of hundreds of feet.
I'm now the technical support for the financial servers for the federal bankruptcy court for M4.
Bankruptcy? What happened, did they neglect to sell the TV rights in advance? This historic event comes to mind, as does this more obscure one. -
Self-fulfilling Defense Strategy
They may not have those ICBMs now, but once we break the ABM treaty, they'll have no reason not to start accumulating them.
Of course, now that we've elected two Texans to the executive branch, it could be argued that we're a new nation and treaties the United States of America signed don't apply to us. Welcome to the Republic of Texas!
Don't laugh. -
Eyes of Texas
Am I the only person to notice that the logo for this is essentially the Texas state flag rotated 90 degrees? Check here for a comparison. Is this thing going to be manufactured in Austin?
:-) Thanks and Gig 'Em!!
