Re:Guess who will buy Pixar?
I doubt it. Lucasfilm has been working the past few years on starting again in the pure animation realm. They have started Lucasfilm Animation and are currently gearing up for some real production. Interestingly enough, most of the animation is taking place in Singapore. This seems to be the way things are moving as animators are cheaper outside the US.

Audio Problems in Star Wars Trilogy DVD set?
According to this (9/20/04 - 12:30 PM PDT), this (9/20/04 - 10:30 PM PDT), and TheForce.Net, there are audio issues in Star Wars Trilogy DVD set.
Lucasfilm denied with this statement, "We are always impressed with how closely fans listen to the many different sound mixes we have made for the Star Wars movies over the years. It is flattering to know that, indeed, the audience is listening. Consequently, each mix comes out differently and any changes that you hear on the all-new Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX tracks on the Star Wars Trilogy DVD set are deliberate creative decisions. We can confirm that there are no technical glitches as reported."

No text. Lalalalala.
News stories == press releases in disguise.
One glaring, recent example:
378 Terabytes Of Star Wars on 600 G5s
Verdict: A free ad for LucasFilm and a free ad for Apple
Case in point:
Looking at the current stories listed on the Slashdot.org homepage, did these known for-profit companies 'buy an ad' to be featured in a news story on the Slashdot.org home page?
AOL
Microsoft
Perhaps the two companies above purchased advertising to appear on Slashdot in the past....
Properly written news stories are primarily news first and advertising a serendipidous second. The rule of thumb is that 'if your press release reads like an ad, it needs to be rewritten' and that good press releases 'answer the who, what, when, where, why, and how questions'.
Also, the goal of press releases is to inform. The goal of advertising is to persuade.
Which do you prefer? Information or manipulation?
Slashdot's ad rates are $CALL--you have to contact a marketing representative to get them.
Remember the old saying?
If you have to ask how much something is, you probably cannot afford it.

Having been there...I can tell you that there is loads of space to put more vines, but from the general opinion of the staff the products of those vines are, well, un-drinkable. Last time I was there, in January 2003, it looked like they removed a lot of the old vines and had planted new ones and were also expanding it.
This photo shows "Lake Ewok" and to the right of it the Technical Building (where Skywalker Sound is). Between the two and down a little is where most of the vines are, and to the right of the tech building there are vines as well. It's an old picture so these changes aren't reflected in it.
And no, we didn't sneak in. In fact I don't think it's possible to sneak in. Anyways, I was there to visit family; doing the sound for a movie at SS.

Discovered a little animation company that needed a vision. Liked the product so much I bought the company. Pixar is now "the" digital animation studio.
And yes, it was named Pixar before he bought it from Lucas. Check the Lucasfilm site:

Re:The report is utterly bogusDo you have any evidence to back this up? It's fine to try to discredit someone else's evidence, but usually you do that by presenting evidence of your own.
I'm unable to find any information at the Lucas Films Ltd. website, at the Minrad website, or anywhere else..

What has happened!
"Horns" leaked what appears to be a very real picture board of EPII to Naboonline who said "due to the fact that we do not want to get into trouble with Lucasfilm, we have decided to not post those images".
http://www.naboonline.com/new s/i ndex.shtml#9701203 is an apology from Naboonline.com to LucasFilm and includes the original letter received from LucasFilm, or more precisely David J. Anderman, Associate Director of Business Affairs, from:netenforcement@lucasfilm.com and then they subsequently state their position as
we do remind that we never posted any storyboards on this site - just 3 snippets of characters....Other sites, however, have linked to or posted some of the images. Aldera.net was asked to remove them.
Which is why we never posted the full images. We thought that a description and 3 character snippets would not invoke any trouble. LucasFilm says to take them off, so we doA few choice snippets of the LucasFilm letter include.

You may also be in possession of stolen property of Lucasfilm.
The good old DMCA comes in along with anything else the lawyers can think to say.....what a surprise. We demand that you remove all of the items described above that are accessible on or through your system or network, accessed by users through your system or network, or located using your information location tools; and disable access to any sites fulfilling these criteria. We further demand that you immediately turn over any Lucasfilm property in your possession to us and provide us with information regarding the source of the materials. You must provide written assurance that you will comply with this demand immediately.
Oh Yeah? You can demand but don't tell people that they must do things unless you are a court. IANAL but I thought it was as simple as that. Could this be harrassment? Also kind-of big demands to drop all links to all sites that have anything still up even if you are linking to something else or just the homepage. It concluded with a nice "Persuant to DMCA...infringe Lucasfilm's copyrights and other intellectual property rights...penalty of perjury". Do they have a form letter for this sh*t? And if the site was based outside DMCA zone (e.g. Europe) would they be able to ignore this?
If a tabloid newspaper published this stuff would they get away with it? I'd have thought so! What is the difference here?
There's only one problem.....See the parent post
