Re:B-b-b-but...
I find it amusing that in this case it appears the inability to run Photoshop on Linux is a good thing.
But you can. Not sure if the malware will run however. Hopefully, one day wine will get compatible enough to be able to run windows viruses.

Actually, Linux + WINE = PhotoshopQuick Google search yielded this little nugget:

Re:COULD THIS BE!?
It simply doesn't work on Linux, even with Wine.
Others would disagree: http://luiscosio.com/how-to-adobe-photoshop-cs2-on-ubuntu-10-steps
Maybe it doesn't work on all distros, but the comments indicate some people are able to get it working perfectly under Ubuntu/Wine by following some (fairly) simple instructions, which could probably be turned into a click and run script. Others are struggling, but their struggles will probably soon resolve into better "how to's" and so forth. Wine seems to be improving rapidly.
The main issue with this particular method is that it is for porting an existing windows install, not installing from scratch, but I'm sure someone else has solved this or will do so very soon. -
photoshop is as good as Linux native now...
there is no reason to lose photoshop, especially on ubuntu. It's really quite easy to bring it over and use it. I use it on my Kubuntu laptop and it's great. Just install wine, and follow these instructions...

...I used to run CrossOver office to run photoshop on linux, but Wine's plenty up to snuff on its own now. The only bug that I get is the layers palette: if the icons aren't on the bottom of the palette DO NOT resize the palette or you'll crash wine, freeze the system and you'll lose what you were working on. Instead, double click the layers tab to collapse the palette, and then do it again to expand. With this, the icons will be on the bottom again, and you'll be good to go, resizing the palette and everything.
Outside of the palettes hovering over everything regardless of the desktop you're on (just hit the tab key to hide the palette before you run away), Photoshop is as good as native application. I haven't had to get CrossOver office on any of my latest installs :) -
Re:useful yet?
If you don't mind copying them over from a Windows installation, at least *some* Adobe apps run.
Photoshop CS2
I haven't tried this with CS3... but here is Dreamweaver 8
I was able to get the extension manager, fireworks, and flash working this way.... but not contribute.... but I'm still working on that since I think it uses the IE component, and I just have to install IE.
Seeing that they work under WINE... and quite well, it would be cool if they could work with Codeweavers like Google did to at least hit the Linux market. -

Running Photoshop CS in Linux

u -10-stepsThanks for the link, it may come in handy. I'll try FOOS graphics programs first and only get Photoshop if none of them work. If I get PS I hope it comes with disks for both OSX and Windows, that way I can run it on both my MBP and linux PC.
