Blandest graphics... everI never liked SOE's payment plans, mainly which you have to pay for expansions. Mainly because in multiplayer games, people usually wont jump up and buy an add-on; and because people don't buy into it, those who do are stuck with very few people to interact with in those "new" areas. Remember that planetside expassion; yeah it sucked because there was nobody to fight there.
My only other gripe with SOE is there lack of an art/graphics department. SWG/EQ/EQ2 you look at the graphics and kind of just want to move along. Planetside lacked alot of detail, structures were very basic angular rectangles, but that was main FPS so it worked; but I would still want more detail to hold my attention.
Granted, EQ2 does have some nice graphical effects (Lighting/water/shadows). But the problem seems to be that their artist(s) don't use them. EQ2 looks very shiny and plastic, but the lack of attention to fine details is odd. I'm having trouble explaining, but the graphics just have this early to mid 90's CGI TV series feel to it... kind of reminds me of Reboot. -
Mainframe Entertainment
I hope that Main Frame Entertainment, the company responsible for the CG on Transformers Beast Wars and Beast Machines, will be involved in the project. They did an excellent job on those two series, and I was especially impressed with the work on Beast Wars. Great writing there too.

Active State, Electronic Arts, Mainframe, etc...

Re:The original postDoes anyone find the irony of this and Pixar producing "A Bug's Life"
If they get together with The guys from Mainframe, I think we might have a hit.
Bob! Bob! We've got bugs in Mainfraime!
Slow down mike. How many of them are there?
Millions! And some of them all over the diner. -- I can just see the headlines now:
"Bugs slash Dot's." It'll be the biggest scandal in miliseconds! -
Re:Was that an earthquake or are we scared?Actually one of the best CGI houses on the planet, Mainframe Entertainment, is in Canada. Considering how many current great animators came out of Sheridan University in Ottawa so far, I wouldn't be surprised if Canada eats our lunch again.
Besides, I live in the San Fernando Valley. We aren't scared here. If pr0n goes completely digital, we'll adapt.

This doesn't look like...
...something Bob or Enzo might play. ;) -
Re:Reboot...please.
BTW, REBOOT IS NOT ANIME. It was made by Mainframe, who are based ion Burnaby, BC (just outside Vancouver).
Mainframe is in Vancouver proper. I have a friend who works there. I live in Burnaby.

The Movies?
Anyone heard anything about the two new movies? Mainframe's site says that there will be two movies released on YTV, a Canadian TV network. Will these be released in DVD or VHS format as well, or, for that matter, will they be shown on Cartoon Network?

Re:Very nice review! Must argue one point though .
Oh, and the Dredge were the most visually cool enemies I've ever seen in a cartoon for a long time. Very creative animation style used on them, gave them a very out-of-reality impression.
Ever see the CGI show Shadow Raiders? Now THAT has(had?) cool enemies. While I liked the movie, I found the Drej to be poor imitations. :-/

Best TV CGI Houses - Mainframe, Foundation, and ?
The Beast Wars and Machines are produced by Mainframe Entertainment of Vancouver. They also create 'War Planets/Shadow Raiders', and did (and will do more) Reboot.*All* of their CGI is top notch. If you watch Reboot from it's first season through to it's third, which spans the real world years from the fall of 1994 to the summer of 1999, you can see the effect of increasing hardware speeds and experience in the quality of the CGI.
Starship Troopers is the *only* other TV CGI which I've seen that approaches the quality that Mainframe turns out. You say it's done by Foundation Imaging? Hmmm, a quick look at their website doesn't clearly indicate to me what other series they currently have under production. Can anyone familiar with the company tell us what other shows (with good CGI and storylines) they are making, other than the Starship Troopers stuff?
Finally, are there any other CGI houses out there doing work of the quality of Mainframe and Foundation?

Re:"Reboot" is already the remake/sequel
Here's a better URL for the
Reboot page...

"Reboot" is already the remake/sequel
For a '90's update on the same theme as Tron, check out "Reboot" on The Cartoon Channel 4:30pm EST.
I already consider this to be a remake/sequel of
Tron. As already mentioned by several others, the
original script for Tron isn't strong enough for
a true remake... However I'd love to see a sequel
if Pixar could find a terrific script.

Reboot
Reboot has been running on Cartoon Network for a couple of weeks now (I have to watch it, I have three boys). They're showing the episodes in their original order. Season 1, Episode 11 "Talent Night," runs Monday afternoon.
According to the web site, there's a chance they may produce a new season, but it seems to be up in the air.
I can't wait to see the episode where Sailor Moon gets squished just as she's about to save Mainframe...hehehe.
