Re:Inappropriate -- Why be secretive about it?
Google found out a way to legitimize this kind of crap :
https://malwaretips.com/blogs/...Seriously, google, WTF ?
We did not ask for your snake oil AV, only for a browser. -
Re:They're also doing the opposite
I just updated to a 7th gen i5 and had this problem on my 8.1 system. There's a manual update solution though luckily. Honestly if I had known about this I probably would have updated this way all the time. The built in updater sucks.

Eats less vs. addons/dns/antiv & does more
See subject: It's just fact I can easily substantiate from reputable sources & tests vs. "AlmostALLAdsBlocked" http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-conte... (151mb) for example, & that holds true vs. DNS also http://www.virtualhelp.me/wind... (300++ mb) & vs. antivirus too https://malwaretips.com/thread... (100++mb) etc. - et al - & hosts (minus my program processing them, it doesn't need to be resident mind you (only consumes ~ 11mb then & operates in LOW cpu priority if minimized)) doesn't even touch that with 3,987,015++ entries & growing currently here @ 120mb (most folks would take 20++ yrs. to get THAT big as I have since 1997 - they'd have 3-16mb tops initially).
APK
P.S.=> Call what I post "spam" all you like - it works & nobody proves my points on hosts validly technically wrong either! Yes, & I invite even TROLLING ac "ne'er-do-wells" like YOU to do better (thing is, you can't, because of what you are & you KNOW it, lol)... apk

Re:I've already uninstalled the windows 10 nag ico
Give me a motherfucking break! By THOSE STANDARDS there hasn't been a Windows bug since the fricking Melissa worm...but the sane world doesn't go by "self replicating" as the standard for a bug, now do they?
MacDefender, MacGuardian, hell OSX even has the FBI bug so don't give us this "self replicating" bullshit, nobody cares whether the virus that steals their fucking ID or CC info is self replicating or not!
Hairyfeet: All I was trying to avoid by using the "Self-Replicating" criteria was the mention of Trojans, which any sane person would agree are a problem for any OS that allows users to install software (i.e., all OSes, including (but not limited to) OS X, Linux and Windows). At least OS X (and now Windows) makes it pretty hard to install stuff as root (Administrator in Windows); but I also understand that that is cold-comfort to the USER who has unwittingly installed malware under their own Account.
MacDefender, MacGuardian, FBI Bug, you name it, they are ALL Trojans. But even by those standards, Wikipedia only lists SEVEN OS X "malwares".
So, essentially, compared with Windows, and even Linux (which has a miniscule marketshare compared with OS X), Macs do not get viruses. Maybe Windows doesn't now, either. But nearly everyone on Slashdot agrees, Trojans aren't viruses, per se. And since OS X has a modicum of "AV" code and anti-malware measures built-in, the need to install cycle-stealing AV packages still seems very minimal. -

VPN servers not so secure...
I've listened to cell phone calls before just screwing around with a scanner. I've heard a person confirming a reservation and give their credit card number. This was mid 90's. So know how easy it is - or was at that time.
I found this post looking for something else, it's off topic for the thread. This pertains to Wifi as well as a PC.
"If you have to use public Wifi then use free VPN service like Hotspot Shield, CyberGhost, OkayFreedom, Spotflux, SafeIP or SecurityKISS which will provide the same security as your home router." http://malwaretips.com/threads...
-Below is something I've written up for well family.-
I've done the leg (finger?) work here. All are free with varying limited data usage. Reading the privacy policy of each, SecurityKISS is my choice and the only one that offers true anonymity if you wish (absolute only with the free service), and the only one that doesn't require a registration. But ones call is routed to Ireland, (and it's jurisdiction), it's noted that they have never given any information out to anybody. http://www.securitykiss.com/ab...
---EndThen checked out out their Facebook page, NSA has compromised their system or service, This found due to a Snowden release. "Starting with 2014/12/17 SecurityKISS discontinued the PPTP service." The CEO made mention they may have the data but it's still has to be decrypted, something I can only assume has been.
https://www.facebook.com/pages...Damn odd it's not listed in their Privacy policy, but then PPTP is still being offered as a service..

Re:Firefox + 60fps = No Go
I don't want to slag the Firefox devs too badly (hey, it's a free browser)
I wouldn't feel too bad about slagging them, they deserve it.
They've spent their development time screwing up the UI instead of working on a major 13 year old bug that's annoyed everyone since its release. -
Re:Meh
Search engine of choice? You must be joking. If it's not Google, it's not a search engine, it's a browser hijacker. Search-Results.com is a minimalist edition of Ask.com but Ask is not Google, so it's a browser hijacker. Google is the only search engine.

Re:What the fuck
What, pray tell, is the purpose of education if each person has to find out everything by themselves, and no one can take advantage of the collective wisdom of society, and the accumulated learning built up over history?
They don't have to find out everything by themselves. Chances are people have done what this guy is trying to do and have written about their experiences. If only there was some way to find this information, perhaps someone has asked the question before?
