Pretty cool, now if they could just combine that technology with this and heat up the plasma a few thousand degrees.....no one would ever mod me down again for fear of a lightsaber enema.

Why not just use these wonderful Master Replicas lightsabers. These lightsabers glow, make sound FX and they are made of a durable plastic that allows for play-combat. I've seen them in person and the replica lightsabers are pretty cool. Although I'd be wary of too many battles with them as I have heard of them breaking from time to time. But it's still a hell of a lot cheaper and better than treatment at the burn unit.

I also wanted to make a light saber that would really turn on and off (not like those sissy plastic ones where the beam never really goes away.) At the time I really wanted one for halloween. Now I just want one because I do.

Well, at least you can get the handle of a lightsaber and use your imagination to turn it on and off :-)

Master Replicas has better stuff. Including models that make the appropriate "wooom" sound when you wave them.

According to the article, the licensed light saber producer is Master Replicas . If you follow the link, you'll see their prices are just as "high end" as the ones featured in this article. So, yes, he's competing with an officially licensed product.

If you are into Star Wars stuff, Master Replicas has been given the license to create authentic props like Luke Skywalker's lightsabre and Han Solo's blaster, as well as more in the future. They're great looking, but expensive. Also available at Action Figure Express or Entertainment Earth.
