trying to get rich quick. There is actually nothing wrong with trying to get rich quick. The problem is getting rich quick at someone else's expence. Nine years is harsh, it is what I would expect for a violent crime.
The average sentence for a violent crime is 9.8 years. The average time served for a violent crime is 4.5 years, or 46 percent of the sentence.
I hate spammers as much as the next guy, but I can not agree that the punishment should be equal to crimes of violence such as rape, murder, and assault. I would submit that the nature of the crime of spamming is to make a profit that the primary punishment should be a fine. In the case of successful drug convictions the dealer can loose their house, car, boat, and everything they used to traffic and store the drugs. While I don't wholly agree with many aspects of the war on drugs, I fully agree that profits made from illegal activities should be funneled back into crime prevention, education, and generally improving the quality of life.

According to this site, your Kerryisms is attributed to Dan Quayle, who apparently said it on 11/30/88.

Re:Sad news
" Where the heck is everybody going and finding these annoying ads?"
I tried about 3 or so pages from the proxy log...

I admit I haven't seen any "Punch the monkey" ads personally in a while, but that is likely because of the types of sites I surf. Just watching people browse the internet looking for something I notice quite a few ads like that still out there.

Re:What about the other frequencies?I doubt its well published
;)Google and I agree with you
;-)As for your second comment, using a radio to remotely detonate an explosive is still relevant if you are using an innocent carrier to deliver the explosive. Even if he is too young to know yet what a virgin is.

Re:error in article
The confusion stems from Katy Johnson being "Miss Vermont USA" in 2001 - which means she was Vermont's entry in the 2001 "Miss USA" pageant. It's a completely separate pageant from the "Miss Vermont" pageant, which she won in 1999.
The NYT still got it wrong - most likely someone thought the two pageants were the same - but it's not quite as egregious an error as your post makes it seem. -

Re:Random related questionThis interference often happened with old, simple garage door openers because they often operated on the military air communications band of 225-400 MHz. An over passing aircraft simply had to key up their radios to interfere with these old systems because they didn't have the digital security coding features of their modern equivalents. Air force one has many communications systems that operate in this band, but that isn't really peculiar to AF1, most if not all military aircraft have radios that operate in this frequency range.
Nowadays, most of Air force one's communications take place over satellite links, but they still use the standard military/civilian aircraft frequencies, since they need to communicate with the air-traffic control system. Here's a link with information on AF1's older communication systems that operate in the UHF band.

Re:eh, leave it to the pros
1) The survery is a self-selected group. Britney Spears nuts aren't going to visit planetary.org
2) NASA is not independently wealthy. The funding they get is ultimately reliant on public opinion, because they are the ones who pay for, and if they complain loud enough in these recessionary times, politicians will look for things to cut. By doing thing, they (hopefully) will be working on projects that *do* have public support, and therefore will be spared the ax.
But I do find it flawed. Better solutions would be:
1) Privatize NASA so they aren't dependent on public funds.
2) Do what we need to do to extricate ourselves from the Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space Treaty, which effectively outlaws any private interests in space.
I'm quite anti-corporate, and as a topic for another thread I could discuss reforms in corporate law and legal status, but I don't view them as inheritly evil.
That said, it's obvious that corporations are many times better at marshalling resources and getting things done than a government agency, given the motivation of shareholder return on investment.
