Re:Wanted: Linux Half Life + Counterstrike modBut WINE makes it possible to run Counter-Strike under Linux! Not just CS but any Half-Life game should work.
If you check the Linux Half-Life page you will find the HOWTO.
Full disclosure: I tried this once and I couldn't get it to work. However, I run a bleeding-edge Debian "unstable" system, and perhaps WINE was unstable that day. I plan to try this again soon.
By the way, Starcraft and other fun games run well under WINE. You can check the WINE app database to see if other people have had success running a particular game.
Good luck and happy gaming!

Future Crew
I got into the demo scene, like many others, after seeing Second Reality from Future Crew. I immediately went out and bought a GUS. I still have it, I recently plugged it into an Alpha but it doesn't seem to work...
Imagine my delight when I look under MP3-musiikki and find this. I downloaded it and I'm really impressed. They haven't done a big demo since Second Reality (a couple of mini-demos only) but I am totally happy that Purple Motion is still at it.
I'm going to have to try some of those demos at work tomorrow where I have access to a Windows box. If only they were all SDL like iXalance, which I found about a month ago... -

Re:Sheer HubrisAnd can you imagine the dark clouds over the game companies' tech support when they read "Yeah I'm running under Win 98.. i mean.. well, Linux, really..."
I'm pretty sure that anyone who installs/plays games under wine will understand that the gaming companies are not going to support it. I don't know of anyone who's called Blizzard tech support becuase they couldn't get StarCraft to work under wine.
Actually, crappy, complicated installation is one of the reasons I don't buy so many PC games anymore. I just don't have time to futz with video drivers, patches, etc.
And you use Linux? LOL.
have you checked out the README for a Windows game lately?
No, I usually don't need to. I usually don't have any problems at all getting win32 games to run. On the other hand, I almost always have to read the README when installing software on Linux that requires more than a configure;make;make install (or rpm -Uvh).
Regardless, anyone here that would attempt to run win32 games under Linux using wine knows what they are getting into and understand how to install/configure the damn game.

Re:Remot Controll == Robot?
For our Finnish readers, this is something similar to Robot Soccer...it is a multiplayer Java game Mikrobotti
Quote from the site:
"Mikrobots are virtual robots, which are fighting against each other on the computer screen. Robots will fight alone or in teams. Mikrobots are directed with Java 1.1 programming langugage and the robot logic and functions are preprogrammed with Java before the battle. When game has started, player can't help his/her robot anymore, but it's controlled only with it's own AI." -
Direct links - all that you need..
lotr_640_full.mov (29 MB) (Now I really hate the damn AI of
/., it didn't let me put the absurdly long direct URL into a href)
QuickTime Installer.zip (8 MB) (Win32 version)
I, as many others, like to actually download the files instead of downloading a downloader program which downloads something which perhaps downloads something, that you can't even save to your HD after downloading it. These links work as of my writing, let's hope nobody changes the URLs.
