    I love Nintendo, but shoehorning their theme tunes into music games basically killed the Cube as a music game system to me. With the Wii getting DDR and Guitar Hero early in its life it seems it'll be a much more rounded music game system, but if I have to get another console to get the games with real music I'll be disappointed again.

    Though I agree that I wouldn't be drawn to a GH game made up Exclusively of Nintendo themes, there are some like The Metroid Theme that would work well. If they had an exclusive 'Venue' where they played them in addition to the traditional ones, or included them as unlockables I would be thrilled.

    IMHO, the best video game music out there is Metroid Metal. Of course, it's all a matter of taste.

    I downloaded all of OCRemix's archives through their BitTorrent link and sampled about 20 seconds of every one. I wound up keeping only about 200 total (and I'm still filtering down to about 150 of those). It's just worth noting to anyone who is getting interested in gaming remixes that there is a lot of crap out there. However, some of them are *really* good (see above link, "Kraid's Theme" rocks!).

    Another good one is Project Majestic, although they sell their CDs rather than provide them for free.

    This isn't exactly a head-on solution, but here's some particularly nerdy outlets for non-RIAA music:

    Nectarine Radio - streaming C64, Atari ST, Adlib, etc. music
    OC Remix - huge repository of submitted video game remixes
    Streaming radio of above
    Metroid Metal - Surprisingly well done

    Metroid Metal has some good stuff too.
