A separate deamon that could survive a Firefox exit or crash would be very interesting. (And will eventually allow power users to try more complex setups, like the daemon running on a separate always-on head-less server, while the FF plugins is only used as interface. For example, that's something I do frequently with mlDonkey & mlDonkey, and that's something that is really missing in Azureus [no head-less mode. Always needs to start full GUI, even when remotely controlled] ).

Also if you keep your promise of making AllPeers open-source, there's good chance to see something interesting like :
- Allpeers-compatible plug-ins for IM softwares like Gaim. IM softwares may be different candidates as "always-on" programms (because some networks like MSN don't allow messages when recipient is offline, there are a lot of people keeping their IM software always running).
- Allpeers-compatible module for multi-standart P2P softwares like mlDonkey or Shareaza.

giFT and MlDonkey (don't miss the DOT when typing the URL, wwwmldonkey.net is a spyware), have both clean-room implementation of FastTraker and are both open-source. (and both work under linux).

For now there's nothing wrong with it but depending on the votation in EU about patents, things may get a little problematic.

BTW: FastTracker is also the name of a sound module tracker made by Triton (now Starbreeze).

Since the announce was rejected by the Slashdot team, it might at least be interesting as a comment on an article on Kazaa: last week, MLdonkey 2.5 has been released. It is the only linux/Mac OS X program with direct access to the Fasttrack network (Kazaa, Imesh,etc). By the way, it has also support for all the other main p2p networks, i.e. Edonkey, Overnet, BitTorrent, Gnutella and Gnutella2, ... It is open-source (GPL), written in Objective-Caml, and comes with a built-in WEB server and different GUIs.

MLDonkey did just recently (as of version 2.5) get FastTrack/Kazaa support! Rejoice :)
MLdonkey is a very fine program, opensource+free (libre+beer) and gives you access to every major P2P network on every major OS. Give it a try.
