Re:Sorry but the list is BS
what crack-addled fuckwit modded this offtopic? Parent says Video Downloader is ok, I say that Ook? (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2

So, would it be wrong to show people the whole list, allowing many people to ignore their ad-laden web page altogether?

Re:Missing from the list
gives me an idea for another extension which stitches these kinds of articles together
Firefox repagination: http://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2099
Of course, once you do that, it becomes even more obvious that the content to garbage ratio on that site is well below 50%, but at least you don't have to click and wait at each break. -

Re:Sorry but the list is BS
I used to use VideoDownloader. Though it got frustrating when the majority of the time I tried to use it, I was getting "Server Busy" errors. That's when I found FastVideoDownload. It runs completely in your browser. If you're on YouTube, click it's icon on the status bar and a file dialog pops up for saving the file. It works great.
For the places it doesn't work, I just keep "tail -f /var/log/squid/access.log | grep flv" in a terminal and then grab the urls and download them with wget. -

Outlook Competitor (finally)It looks like Lightning is already available for download for Thunderbird 2...
I haven't tried it yet - I've been using Sunbird - but the additional features that lightning provides will help Thunderbird on the road to becoming a more complete Microsoft Outlook competitor. If only we could convince someone to write the Exchange competitor on an open database...
From the Sunbird / Lightning page http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/lightning / Which is right for me?
You may prefer Mozilla Sunbird if...
you prefer your calendar to be separate from your email client
you don't currently use Mozilla Thunderbird for your email
you don't like adding add-ons [such as extensions or themes] to your applications
You may prefer Lightning if...
you send or receive meeting invitations via email
you already use Mozilla Thunderbird for email
you customize your applications with add-ons [such as extensions or themes] You can follow the Mozilla Calendar Weblog here >> http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/calendar/ -

Re:Firefox 3.0
Then go check it out. The difference between the FF 3.0 offline application support and web page caching is that FF simply provides a storage model. The applications are responsible for ensuring that they have the information that they need. And, btw, the browsers _can_ get offline browsing right, but you are in very small minority of people who want it. You could always fix that yourself in FF or Konqueror.

Re:Firefox 3.0

Re:Firefox 3.0
You don't even have to wait.
Firefox 2.x supports DOM:Storage objects that will already let you store arbitrary data client-side, and IE supports something similar with Persistence and DHTML Behaviors. If you want the same mechanism for multiple browser types you can do some crazy Flash-based stuff as well.
Within the browser storage objects there are some limitations as to size, so that could be part of the new versions. But make no mistake: this feature is already a reality. See Ajaxian or Dojo for more of the same, including concrete implementations. -
Re:Gmail
Well, if you had yahoo, you could get the Yahoo Mail Add-on for firefox. There's probably also - Oh lookee! I got another email! Gotta go respond! - one for Gmai - Ooh! Three new messages! - where was I? Oh, gmail! Yeah, there's probably one for gmail somewhere, too. It's really useful. Now I don't spend all - I have 1 new message! - day clicking the "Check Now" button. I let the - New mail! New Mail! - computer do it for me!

Re:Link is to a rather hostile page
Hmm, my CPU usage is hovering around 1.5%. Sounds like you could use NoScript, Adblock, Adblock Filterset.G Updater, and Flashblock. If that sounds like bloat to you, you can lower your CPU usage to ~0 with Lynx, w3m, or Links. If that's still too much overhead for you, give LineMode a try.

For my Firefox extension, Morning Coffee. It helps you organize those daily sites so the ones that update sporadically can be viewed at the right intervals. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/26

Re:Who would want to?
Well...I do have calendaring in Thunderbird with http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/releases
/ lightning0.3.1.html My organization is 100% Linux based and 100% MS free, there is no need for Exchange (in my opinion). Additionally Exchange is bloated from what I saw last time...just for serving mail and some calendar sharing? In short, if there is a will there is a way! But I'm not sure if everybody whining about the MS lock-in really wants to do without MS products. It's certainly possible and everything else are excuses. -

Re:Where's the problem?
"An better solution might be to let the AJAX application explicit handle sessions by storing the session id, and sending it in the post part of all it's requests."
That's what I meant :).
All cookies are are files with text in that identifies you session. Since the JS checks the cookies not the server, any request must include data to validate the session anyways. Think about it, you go to a page it generates a cookies with you session auth data in it. The javascript then requests appointment data for user X. The javascript MUST be including some sort of validation data, or otherwise the server will just be giving out this data to anybody who requests it, and assuming the javascript has checked the cookie. AJAX can just store it in the javascript, rather than reading it from the cookie every request. It's the same stored session data (or it can be), its just stored in a javascript variable rather than a cookie.
I can prove it :D. Install the Firebug extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/184 3 into firefox and click console. It shows AJAX requests including parameters. All of them have a session identifier of some sort. For example I just tried Gmail, you get a 16 character SID (session id presumably) paramater send with every request.
In summary, hell is in the cookies. -
Re:Ponies? Really?
Not only is it possible to bring the OMGponify
/. again, but it's very simple with the use of Slashdotter, the firefox extension.
Read your slashdot the way it was meant to be read, in PINK!!! OMG Ponies!
I think it does some other slashdot related bits and pieces but hey, it's nothing more important than omgponies! -
OMG!!! Ponies!!!
1. Download: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/21
7 5
2. Tools > Add-ons > Slashdotter > Options.
3. Click on styles tab, than change 'Default style'.
4. ???
5. OMG!!! Ponies!!!
So if your lose megahertz's wouldn't that screw up the RTC calculations? -
Re:Where are the ponies?
Install the Slashdotter plugin and set your theme override to ponies. Done.

Re:What I hope it has
1. Why stop them when you can totally get rid of them: Adblock plus: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/18

2. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Reducing_memory_usage_-_ Firefox
3. Goto 1
Your suggestions are how ever already listed in the wish-list. The only problem is that the list contains probably a thousand feature requests, so I'm not sure when they will be implemented.

Can be done via the Smart Bookmarks Bar extension.

Re:Wrong Half, M$
Google gets away with it because their ads are unobtrusive, and nobody minds seeing (occasionally useful) ads on the side of their Gmail inbox.
Or people use Firefox and get plugins that allow them to remove the ads like Customize Google, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/743 -
Re:Feel free, MS...
Yeah, but they keep changing their domains from ad1.doubleclick to ad2.doubleclick or some such combinations to try and stay one step ahead of the host file blockers. This would not get by a regular expression of course, but the windows hosts system does not support regular expression based filtering. Fortunately, AdBlock does support regular expression based filtering and it manages to keep double click out despite the games they try to play.
-
Seriously, who doesn't filter DoubleClick?
If you use Firefox, snag Adblock Plus and the Filterset.G Updater. If you're using Internet Destr-- Er, I mean Internet Explorer, woe is you, but at least snag the Google Toolbar, which I think blocks DoubleClick ads.

Actually it's licensed under both plus the LGPL. See this page for details. -

users are.
