Repeated sites
Repeated sites is an option that you can turn off. I don't know what version you were using that it was so buggy, but I'm pretty sure all bugginess stopped many versions ago. We're on version 2.1 now, iirc.
Besides, with time the network that stumbleupon has access to will grow as the people on it both grow in number and experience.
Granted I don't want to give you the idea that stumbleUpon is perfect; It's just pretty damn good and the main reason you cite (that it repeats sites) isn't a bug; it's a feature, that can be turned off. (The idea is for people on dialup or who don't Stumble very often, a small prefetched list is often enough. Power users of course, need more). -
Cookie Culler
I love cookie culler, as I can still allow all sites to use cookies, but only the ones I want are saved session to session.

Re:NoScript...
NoScript is definitely one of the most useful extensions ever! Have a site that somehow gets pop-ups past you? Well, they work via javascript, so fuck 'em! New security vulnerability due to JS somehow? Fuck 'em again! Ads in general? Fuck 'em, they use JS! Badly coded tag soup websites that depend on JS? Fuck 'em and their incompetent web developers!

Web Developer Extension
the web developer extension helps, and gives easy access to source code, window resizing, page information, as well as has many options for dealing with css, forms, images and javascript.
It was the first extension I ever got, and the first one I always install.
Oh, the flashblock extension is cool too. Altho either Flash 8 is broken in firefox, or that extension is messing it up. (I cant see flash things in FF anymore -.-) -
All the usual above and TargetAlert
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/extensions
/ targetalert/targetalert-0.8.9.4-fx+mz.xpi
Provides a visual cue for the destination of a hyperlink by appending a link with an icon that shows what type of file it leads to, or the effects it may have, such as opening a new window or leaving a secure site. Icons can be set to appear only when mousing over a link (default), or they may be added to links automatically when the page loads. TargetAlert makes it easier to locate links to important document types while also providing warnings for links with undesired effects.
Set it to show on mouseover and it doesnt mess up content flow. You get so used to it it feels missing from all the other browsers. -

I'll match your gestures and raise you a menu
Radial menues are IMHO way better than mouse gestures. For Firefox you can try RadialContext or Easy geastures. Personally I prefer the RadialContext plugin as I find that it's a bit cleaner.
The benefit you get from using radial menues instead of only gestures is that you actually get feedback as you perform the gesture. So if you can't remember the gesture then you can just right click and the menues will guide you through it. Once you know it you no longer need to look at the menues and only do the gesture directly.
I recommend those interested in gestures to take a look at it. -

about:kitchensink
Spellbound gives me a fighting chance of having decent spelling. The Web Developer Toolbar comes in handy when working with websites. When you're done adding all the extensions, don't forget the most important one, the kitchen sink.

Print-It
I use Print-It! to restore the Print command to the context menu. Of course it never should have been taken out in the first place, but that's an argument for another day.

The Answer is Plain
Copy Plain Text is up there as my number 1 or 2 (fighting with adblock, of course). It is so annoying for me when I copy something out of a webpage, paste it into some type of document, and find that all the HTML formatting has come with it, causing a bomb to explode in the middle of my otherwise clean page. In other words, Copy Plain Text is slowing my rate of hair-loss.

IE View
I use IE view with my Firefox 1.5.
It allows you to use the IE rendering engine within firefox to view IE pages, such as windowsupdates (which runs perfectly in a tab of firefox).
Get it at https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php ?application=firefox&id=1419 -
Re:Where does TFA mention geographic restrictions?
It's in the contest rules...
No it's not. The contest main page says that they have verified that it's legal to enter in the US, Canada (sans Quebec) and the EU. It doesn't say that other areas are excluded. The official rules don't mention any specific jurisdiction. -

unbzip it.
count the *.cpp files.

Now do you get it? -

AJAX for Yahoo! Mail
I like GMail because it supports AJAX, and Yahoo! Mail seems to be behind in this area. Then, I chanced upon a Firefox extension that adds AJAX support to Yahoo! Mail. It's pretty neat.

Re:Bloody optimists...
Don't you think it's a bit too optimistic to expect "millions of downloads"?
No - Firefox already surpased 100 million downloads. And that was due to "popular talk". But there're lots of people who doesn't know what firefox is - this will help. And don't forget that windows 9x and 2000 users won't have a IE7 version. I don't think that expecting "millions of downloads" from google's plan is "optimist". -
gmail, openoffice , firefox?
Hmm... a scenario:
Google starts providing OpenOffice as a client-side components within Firefox, perhaps downloaded as XPCOM components, perhaps using the GoogleToolbar as the entry point. The browser now provides straightforward access to both thin and thick client functionality.
The gmail, google maps, etc interfaces are melded in too, providing a uniform interface to a free persistent 'office environment' that people can access through any browser, anywhere, with temporary working files stored locally for performance and content network-backed to Google's servers...
This could explain Microsoft's recent launch of Windows Live as - perhaps - a preemptive defensive maneuvour. -
Re:javascript verification, please
Have you tried the web developer toolbar

Re:Where does TFA mention geographic restrictions?
They seem to be mixed up on this one.
It says here: http://developer.mozilla.org/contests/extendfirefo x/
"Where? Contest is open to residents of the US, Canada (excluding Quebec), and the European Union. Void where prohibited."
Then in the FAQ (http://developer.mozilla.org/mozilla-org/contests /extendfirefox/faq.php#8)
it says "Is the contest open to International entries?
Yes. Please see the contest rules for more information."
But then in the official rules there is no mention of it. -

The second link.
Here. Under where is says "Where?" way above the fold.
"Where? Contest is open to residents of the US, Canada (excluding Quebec), and the European Union. Void where prohibited." -

Re:Why only U.S/Canada/E.U
That's what I thought at first too, then I looked closer:
http://developer.mozilla.org/contests/extendfirefo x/
Where? Contest is open to residents of the US, Canada (excluding Quebec), and the European Union. Void where prohibited.
So the issue seems confused the official rules don't say anything about location, but the announcement does. -
Re:Better pop-up extentions?
I went to both sites.. i didn't see any ads. Turns out that the extensions I have work just fine. They are a combo of Adblock with Adblock Filterset.G Updater.

Re:Where does TFA mention geographic restrictions?
Interesting - it's in the "Contest Rules", but not in the "Official Contest Rules". That's most odd in my book.
-

Strange, the published rules don't make any mention of the location of the participatns (or I read them too fast).

Want to win?
Why not buld a bit torrent client into Firefox? See this bug on Bugzilla for a start point; I'm pretty sure you'd have a good chance if you put this together!
-
Experienced vs Novices
I wonder how the little guys (ex: SVG Switcher for FF1.5) will compete with the big guys (ex: Web Dev Toolbar).
I just hope that the small guys are judged fairly and those with years of experience don't just take over the whole competition. Or maybe that's okay, because in the end (perhaps) it will be the big serious guys against eachother and all the newcomers pretty much don't have a chance.
Just my opinion, I wonder what others might think. -

It looks like they spilt off their advertising and such into its own company about 4 months ago.
