Re:Apple hasn't innovated since Jobs
apple hasn't innovated... like ever.

I know that job's mob, just like hilary's mob, will troll-mod me, but hey, here's the truth.

Re:A mixed bag
What we need is for advertisers to go back to showing girls playing with non-pink stuff, like Lego did before about 1985. Maybe you should show her this, and the many similar images from that era.
The irony (that you will get but probably ignore) is that the advertising in question lead to no girls wanting to play with the stuff (no, girls weren't into LEGO in the early 80's), providing further evidence that it is not nurture but nature that makes girls not want bare LEGO. This advertisement is proof that they tried it your way and your way did not result in more girls playing with LEGO.

Re:A mixed bag
Now, a related question...why did pink and cats draw her in? Is it innate? Or is it something she was taught by society? To that question, I have no answer.
That's an easy one. It's not innate. 100 years ago pink was a boy's colour, similar to red. Girls preferred blue, a soft and pale colour. In the 1920s it flipped around.
The reason your daughter needed pink bricks to become interested is because she has been bombarded by images and advertising telling her that pink is a girl's colour, and girls should seek out pink toys. What we need is for advertisers to go back to showing girls playing with non-pink stuff, like Lego did before about 1985. Maybe you should show her this, and the many similar images from that era.

Re:Dumbest question I'll see all day.
I think we have reached the point where a display + camera may be just as good for seeing out and more structurally sound then windows. Take a look at the windowless plane interior shot from upthread:
http://rack.1.mshcdn.com/media...
There are lots of other reasons why we might still want windows, but I think we have superior options for just needing to see out.
-
Re:Yes.
The passengers in a plane do not need windows but clearly because planes have windows at considerable cost to design properly (remember the Dehavilland Comet?) there's clearly a want for them to be there.
Windowless planes are coming. And they will be awesome.

Re:Early adoption problem
There was no purple flare camera issue on the iPhone 4 / 4S
Not true. There was just no hysterical news vomit about it.

People tried to call in to report it, but their calls kept dropping.

Re:What?
The iPhone4 didn't do this.
The iPhone 4S did. Not sure about the iPhone 4.

http://thenextweb.com/apple/2012/09/26/the-iphone-5s-camera-suffering-purple-haze-flaw-not-fast/And yet it went without comment before. Why? It's a damn good camera for a phone, but it's not a DSLR. It's impossible to have DSLR level photography from phone that's 7.6 mm thick.
We heard the Apple apologists for the maps debacle, now we hear the Apple apologists for the camera debacle...
Look at the comparison pictures on both sites. They are not framed the same way. Both these websites are intentionally going out of their way to make the iPhone 5 look better even though it isn't.

Re:They're not expecting to take high-end digital.
Here are photo comparisons with the 4s that do show the 4s with purple fringing.
http://5.mshcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/iphone-5-haze-on-the-4s.jpg [mshcdn.com]
http://thenextweb.com/apple/2012/09/26/the-iphone-5s-camera-suffering-purple-haze-flaw-not-fast/ [thenextweb.com]Note that camera angle to light source is critical, to get the effect to show up on either phone. In your example comparison, if the photographer tried a bit more he could probably have found the angle to make the purple flare show on the 4S too.
This is a lot of fuss about nothing. But we're used to that with iPhone stories. No other phone gets this level of close examination for flaws. Not enough people care about other phones.

They're not expecting to take high-end digital...
Serves you right for buying a phone and expecting to take high-end digital-camera-quality images with it.
They're not expecting that.
They're just - rightly so, in my opinion - expecting at least the quality of the iPhone 4s. See comparison:
http://9.mshcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/iphone-haze-comparisonb.jpgThis has nothing to do with people expecting dSLR quality imagery using a cellphone. They're not even expecting point-and-shoot quality. They're expecting reasonable phone quality (for this day and age), and quite often not getting it.
As for taking pictures with your phone in general,I'm sure you can do the Jeopardy routine for "The camera you have with you."

Re:it looks bad
how exactly do they delay all of these in all countries ?
You are right, Apple don't appear to be trying to delay every single Android device from every single manufacturer. But then again, they don't have to. If you check out the "Android fragmentation" graphic you will notice that the vast majority of devices are sold by only a few manufacturers - Samsung being the largest, with HTC, Sony and Motorola trailing. Apple has sued Samsung, HTC and Motorola - the curiosity is Sony, who haven't been sued yet. Why not is speculative: Why hasn't Sony been sued by Apple yet? But Samsung is clearly the biggest target, their Galaxy S line of phones is extremely popular and has outsold the iPhone almost every month in some of the largest Western markets (check the graphic at the bottom of this page that covers UK sales).

Re:truly breaking reporting
I'm not talking about standards, but about implementation. By reading you one would find impossible to believe the iPhone 4S has twice the data speed of the iPhone 4, since they are all on the same 3G network. How can that be? Huh?
Just an illustration of the theoretical speed of 4 phones The first generation 4G phones are not faster than the iPhone 4S. Of course, the 4G standard has much better potential than that. But the first version of the phones are consuming a hell of a lot of battery, while going no faster than an iPhone 4S.
Sure, you can call it Apple propaganda, but the field tests tend to agree with the graph (at least I've read about one a few weeks ago)

Re:GO GOOGLE!
The Google story is older than you give it credit for. Just because you were too young to know what it was didn't mean that some of us weren't already 'feeling lucky' in choosing Google over Altavista, Lycos, and everyone else. Google got the job done AND worked just fine in Mosaic.

Re:Other possible uses ?
Does it work with the iPhone4 ?
