Re:Just do it!
I wasn't referring to Bittorrent. Ever hear of Hulu? Youtube? MTVmusic.com? Or just about any of the websites of the major television networks? I suppose I should get off your lawn, now.

Re:Beyond brilliant
They just want it to be "their way", so we can enjoy the music on sites like this one. Padded in ads and nagging you to buy something.

Amazing stuff here!

Didn't RTFA but
I noticed this yesterday. Is it new? Well, I don't know if that Weird Al video is up there, but they have a few good oldies I hadn't seen in a while.
Of course the "Most Watched" on there seems to be a Britney Spears fluff piece and the "Most Rated" is RickRoll, but whatever.

Re:Is it me, or is the music quality really bad?
Example: Try to listen to Tori Amos Winter

And then compare to the youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnboUbOGDOMThe Mtv version got a really bad 'noice' in the background in the beginning of the song.
Or maybe it's just a problem with their player and Linux.I hear the marked difference in the audio quality between the two also, so it is not just you.
Of course it may not be MTV after all: as nocsript shows:
Temporarily allow http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtvmusic.com:47577#!flashvars%23franchise=FakeFranchise&autoPlay=true
"franchise=FakeFranchise"

Actually..
The people behind MTV Music's web presence filmed a short video detailing their goals with the site, and outlined how they'll separate the Music videos from other MTV content to help establish a more defined web presence. I found it worthwhile.

Censorship
I was perusing this yesterday, and came across the Weird Al video "Don't Download This Song". One line in the original song goes:
o/~ Like Morpheus or Grokster or Limewire or KaZaA o/~But the version on the new MTV site goes:
o/~ Like *beep* or *beep* or *beep* or *beep* o/~Does anyone know if it was aired on MTV/VH1 this way, or is this unique to the web version?

Re:ffs, Rick-Rolled already?
Top Rated:
Never Gonna Give You Up
By Rick AstleyIt's obvious MTV realized that if they wanted to compete with YouTube, they had to have the most popular music video of all time on there, or they just couldn't compete.
On a more serious note, did anyone else notice that their flash player looks almost exactly like Hulu's? I wonder if there is some licensing agreement with Hulu behind the scenes?
