Re:Safety Critical
Someone went out and tested this themselves with a Lexus ES350 which is the car that was involved in the fatal crash due to stuck accelerator. You CAN stop the car, but you only get one chance, if you let up on the brake and try again your braking power is dramatically reduced. If you do it a third time you have no brakes. The brake fade to nothing.
This is most likely what happened in that crash, the driver noticed the car accelerating, braked to slow down to 70 then let off, it happened again, braked then let off at 70. Then the panic set in, he probably had little braking power left at that point. -
Re:I can find work somewhere else
LOL, that last bit was totally fictional...but the fat woman thing was inspired by this legendary thread:

(Possibly NSFW and dangerously hilarious)

Re:Looks Legit
So if you gave free speeches under the moniker Raryco, would you expect no protection under trademark law when I start using your mark for my business?
If I'm not using the name as a mark of trade, then no, I wouldn't expect the name to protected as a mark of trade. Why would I expect it to be protected as something it's not?
NASIOC is a well known subaru user site - can I market NASIOC wristbands without their OK?
NASIOC sells stuff. Therefore the name is a mark of trade, and is protected as such. You would find yourself in a courtroom if you tried to sell NASIOC wristbands without their OK.
Methinks your undestanding of how things work is faulty
What part do you take issue with? That trademark law deals specifically with commerce? Here's a little bit of what our old friend Wikipedia has to say on the subject (with some emphasis added):
A trademark
... is a distinctive sign or indicator used by an individual, business organization or other legal entity to identify uniquely the source of its products and/or services to consumers, and to distinguish its products or services from those of other entities. -
Re:The market can only decide if it CAN decide
Oh I've already had it for a few years, but I'm out of the country until August. The quality is great, someone spend a good amount of time on it. It's for a 2004, but most everything applies to 2002/2003 as well. In fact I think it covers some 2002/2003 specific content as well but don't quote me on that. What are you trying to fix? I might be able to tell you if it's covered in the manual. Also, check out http://forums.nasioc.com/ There is a lot of very good information you can search for that would probably help you out.

Re:Pop-up ads are coming back
Aha. I found the thread on the forum. They wrote to e-bay, not Google. Apparently, the Ebay support staff thought they were pulling a practical joke.

Re:Most useful web interface ever: Google news
Damn, I did mean Google Groups. Great, I probably just blew my chances of ever seeing it on slashdot.
In response to your second comment, all kinds of sites have recognized the utility of having an overview of a comment thread, so you can tell at a glance who is replying to whom, and so on. Yes, I know about nested comments and threading, but I still find /.'s implementation of those pretty dicey.
Most sites that do provide this sort of overview do it at the top or bottom of a page, like this:

I think Google Groups' vertical implementation is better.

Re:I'm on the fence
Public places are just that: public. Whether you like it or not, people can see and record your actions.
Yup. People take your picture in public... then message board threads like this happen!

Re:Not exactly "green" yet
Funnily enough in the last 5 years I have not seen a single bird hit any of my windows.
How about your hood scoop?

Voiding of Warranties
Or take the driver who races his Miata one weekend and files a warranty claim the next. What are the chances that his data recorder will rat him out to the manufacturer who then voids the warranty?
If you're a car manufacturer, you can do the smart thing and encourage your customers to participate in sanctioned racing events. Subaru gives you a free membership in the SCCA when you buy a WRX.
On the other hand, if you try to champion any races, in an EVO, Mitsubishi will just void your warranty. -
Re:Watch out, they see you coming!
Most users ever online was 6057, 01-18-2004 at 10:35 AM.

Record Slashdotting...How many sites can be taken out with one article?
Mirror attempts:

Would anyone else like to try? Of course, its probably too late, as all mirrors have been slashdotted... -

Re:definite overlap, but no /.
I'd make another category for the Subaru crowd, who as a group generally disdain the rest of the Asian Import cars as being flashy, but lacking substance.
Having once owned one, I can see why. I now fall into the VW crowd, mainly because my TDI allows me to keep my gas mileage (~49mpg) and my dignity. -
