Re:Unsure
The study is highly suspect. Because it looks like the area they are referring to is the temporal lobe. This is the area involved with hearing and I would not be surprised if putting a muted telephone on one side of the head would increase my brain activity as I strain to hear something. They need to show that if they move the antenna, that the increased activity follows it. This would have been very easy to do, but was not done. Why?
from http://www.neuroskills.com/brain.shtml:
Temporal Lobes: Side of head above ears.
Functions:
* Hearing ability. Memory acquisition. Some visual perceptions
* Categorization of objects. -
Re:Medical 'insurance' is an extended warranty
Force is not the only harm worth considering in society - starvation, bankruptcy, financial ruin, these are all real too, and ruin lives in a much more concrete way than someone being asked to pay taxes.
More than most, although there are a number of others coming back from Iraq learning it too, I know all too well about having your life ruined. I know because my life has been ruined, I am a survivor of a Traumatic Brain Injury, TBI. The docs told my family it would be a miracle if I lived, my sister told me after I came out of the coma I screamed at everyone to let me die and I wish they had.

SSI and SSDI
First off, SSI is for supplementing low income. SSDI is for disability.
Are you sure? I get SSI not SSDI because of a disability.
One reason people don't get the services they need is that people like you assume that if you can't see the disability, then they probably don't have one.
That's a problem I've run into due to my disability. By looks you can't tell I'm disabled, I'm not paralyzed, have no missing body parts, or am disfigured. My disability is neurological, I am a TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury survivor.

fixing a problemn before it exists
Of course, taking action before there was a problem would avoid the disruption, but the FTC is on the side of the people who stand to benefit from the "problems" that would be prevented.
While I support the precautionary principal in some instances I don't see a need for it when dealing with net neutrality. I have yet to see one instance of a problem regarding it. If you want to apply the precautionary principal then start with something like say automobiles. Because of the number of injuries and deaths caused by them they should be made illegal. And yes I know what I am talking about. I am a TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury survivor. I was injured when a moving van hit me while I was riding my bike. And the "survivor" bit isn't figurative, it's literal. While I was in a coma the docs told my family it would be a miracle if I survived.

improving life instead of being miserable
The world would be a far better place if people actually did something about what is making them miserable, rather than hiding inside a bottle, squandering their lives.
Easier said than done. Two months shy of ten years ago I was hit while riding my bike, I rode more than 100 miles a week, after my classes in college when I was hit by a moving van driven by someone who had a record of causing accidents. While I was in a coma the docs told my family it would be a miracle if I lived. I would strongly argue that with those docs now, my sister told me that after I came out of the coma I was screaming everyone to let me die, and I wish I had died. I am now a survivor of a TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury. Though I don't use drugs and only drink occasionally, because of my injury I'm not supposed to drink at all, I frequenly wish I could get and remain drunk and/or stoned. The only think stopping me from doing so is that I never did like to get drunk or stoned. And you want to say just be "happy"?

Seat belts and motorcycle helmets save lives.
Seat belts may save some lives but they kill some as well. I knew a girl who was in a car when it was in an accident. She wasn't injured in the accident itself but the car caught on fire and the seat belt was jammed so she burned to death. To me that is the worst way to die. Helmets don't work all the tyme either. I am a prime example of that. I was riding my bike after some classes in college when I was hit by a moving van. The side view mirror of the van hit the backpack I had on and sent me flying. No damage was done to my head at all, I didn't even get a scratch on it. However while I was in a coma the docs told my family it's be a miracle if I lived. Well, now I am a survivor of a TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury. Most of the the therapists I saw said a helmet wouldn't of had helped me at all. The TBI wasn't caused by blunt trauma to the head but by the violent shaking my brain experienced and a helmet wouldn't have prevented it. The point is is that there shouldn't be a law requiring either seat belts or helmets, that each person should be held accountable to the decisions they make.

Re:Adderall and ritalin ARE basically amphetamines
For those of you thinking about trying this stuff without the supervision of a doctor after reading this: don't. While they can be a godsend for those with ADHD, those who don't have the problem can have some serious trouble.
I'm glad this topic, drugs to enhance intelligence, came up. I'll do some research I take with me when I see my doc. Then we can discuss whether they may help me, though I don't have ADHD, I do have trouble with my memory because of a Traumatic Brain Injury, TBI.

Re:Headshot!
why would a headshot be more effective against a zombie than a bodyshot?
According to http://www.neuroskills.com/index.shtml?main=/tbi/b rain.html
A headshot could damage many parts of the brain:
- damaging the brain stem could impair balance.
- damaging the cerebellum (base of skull) would hinter coordination of voluntary movement, balance and equilibrium.
Damaging more of these could lead to paralysis, and a bunch of other useful things.
So: Blow their head off, and chances are they will fall down, and effectively immobile. They might flail around like a dead chicken, but shouldn't come after you.
Shouldn't. ;) -
