Re:Good job EU!
I was always taught to start out with a positive comment [...]
A laudable practice, though if you'll forgive me for saying so, your "positive comment" in this case bears the whiff of overweening politeness intended as mockery (or "damning with faint praise"), which I doubt your instructor would have approved of.
Unfortunately, I can not find a shred of evidence to support any of your claims.
Then you didn't read my reference (beyond looking for quotes to yank out of context), as it provided its own references.
IMHO the only way you could make the statements you have quite an emotional investment in the issue and I doubt any rational discussion would change this.
I concluded much the same of you, but I figured I should answer you anyway for the benefit of our other readers.
For those to lazy to follow the link, here are some exerpts from this in-depth "analysis":
Ooh, quoting out of context, there's a winning strategy. Here are a few more relevant quotes:
[...] You see, I have a law practice to attend to. (Yes, I exist. Yes, I'm a practicing lawyer in Los Angeles. I graduated Yale Law School in 1992, and I am a member of the Calfornia Bar. My practice consists entirely of litigation, with a strong appellate practice.) [...]
[...] All of the facts in my Q&A are well-documented, either in the US Supreme Court opinion, Federal Law (3 USC Sec. 5), former Supreme Court case-law, the Florida Supreme Court and the Florida courts below, or, occasionally, press accounts. [...]
[...] While there are humorous aspects to the Q&A, it is indeed serious. The illogical opinion of the Supreme Court, one of the worst and ill-reasoned opinions in US history is, unfortunately, no joke. [...]
(And just in case it wasn't clear, I am not the author of the site I'm referring to.)
Of course, this is all moot as Bush would have won the election no matter how many times your recounted, even under the most Gore-favorable criteria.
No, he wouldn't. [These are, unfortunately, from pay-to-read archives, so I can only cite the summaries. Relevant quotes below:
While the vast majority of Florida's overvotes could never have been assigned legally to any presidential candidate, experts say there are some clues in the ballots that offer at least evidence of, if not proof, for whom voters meant to vote. And that evidence suggests Al Gore was preferred by more voters than George W. Bush. Among the clues: 71,548 overvote ballots had a vote for Gore, but not Bush. There were 25,082 overvote ballots that had a vote for Bush, but not Gore.
Democrat Al Gore might be president today if Fl

Snoop Dogg is a GOOD MAN
As a family man, Snoop has devoted a large portion of his life to helping children and is in fact the football coach responsible for his team of 8 and 9 year olds reaching the playoffs. Try to see past the music and understand the man.
I suggest you check out this very well-written article, first in its original source (requires reg): Daily Bulletin Archive , and also duplicated (free) on the Snoop Heaven News Page. -
Reported since at least the EightiesI notice it dates to '96... I'm surprised I hadn't heard about it until now.
Note the references on the Snopes page, which are years earlier.
I first heard about it in a Boston Globe article in 1987. Boston Globe

Simple explanationDigging through their site, the answer is fairly simple. NewsWeek archives old news, and then charges you to access historical articles.
Anchorage Daily News does the same thing.
I didn't buy the archived message, but this link should take you to the search results to get to it.

unecessary
realistically, one doesn't need high-tech methods to bring down the infrastructure... just the other day, the simple method of severing a telephone line took out much of the entire Boston area's communication networks...

Re: Reference to the voice voteAccording to this article in the Boston Globe (an archive article which unfortunately requires both registration and a $2.50 charge.) Has the following passage:
The bill cleared the House in March 1998 but stalled in the Senate. Finally, in October, just before the end of the congressional term, a similar version reached the Senate floor, passed by unanimous consent, and cleared the House the same day in a voice vote. No members of Congress had to go on record with their votes.

What about the group from Maine?
This article failed to mention a pilot from Maine who has already successfully built a replica of multiple Wright Brother's planes, namely the 1910 EX, and have actually flown them across the country in preperation for the anniversary in 1903. My great-uncle, Dana Smith, is involved with this and has already demonstrated the viability of building a replica by methods that don't involve using the original design plans. The original plans purposely did not work because the brothers did not want people to imitate their creation. That, and changes were constantly being made and never kept up with.
There is an article summary here titled: THE WRIGHT STUFF (second one down). Unfortunately, you have to pay to read the whole article. http://nl9.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_ac tion=list&p_topdoc=11 -
Re:hmm.
In short, the WP editors should be working for the National Inquiror [sic --LR]
I remember reading in US News & World Report a few years ago that the National Enquirer actually has stricter standards regarding verification of sources and other fact checking than the NY Times/Washington Post.
[Goes to USN&WR's site...]
Here's a link where you can purchase [newsbank.com] the article in question for $2.
Google has a cached [google.com] version.
As an aside, do you think US News might sue Google over things like this? I've always thought that their caching scheme might be of questionable legality (what with the DMCA and all).

potential good news
I posted this two days ago, but of course 2001-08-21 22:16:52 Mainstream DMCA Coverage(articles, money) (rejected) for some unknown reason
:-(
The Washington Post has a small editorial regarding the dangers of the DMCA. Newsweek is carrying a similar piece [registration required]. Although this news is nothing new for the /. crowd, the Post is read regularly by members of congress and their staff. Maybe this is the kick-in-the-pants that congress needs to take another look at this terrible lobby. There is also a relevant discussion here on k5. -
Re:VW Lupo 3l
The really funny thing is that during the "Summer 2000 Gasoline Crisis" in the US, my price never went up...at all!
That's because the EPA couldn't alter the blend in Italy. The gas price hikes that happened in the USA last year, and to a point this year, are a direct result of the EPA requiring many cities to use a different blend of gasoline. The refineries cannot make the "Phase II ReFormulated Gas" as fast, plus they have to flush their entire systems out before starting to make this new gasoline to prevent contamination. The pipelines also have to flush out the pipes before this new gasoline can flow. Both requirements reduce the output, which creates an artificial shortage. Since gasoline is traded on the open market, any reduction in the supply without a corrosponding reduction in the demand will result in price increases.
The Washington Times had an article about this on July 14, 2000. The article even that an internal Energy Department memo dated June 5, 2000 says the Clinton Administration new price increases would result from their policy. I have the original article saved here and have found a link to it at a news archiver here. The link on this page to the full text was broken when I tried it but the 1 paragraph summary is accurate with the full article. -

Rebirthing is a crackpot technique of suffocating a child, and then rescuing it, so that it "bonds" with its new parents.
However, Freenet is nice.
