Why bother blocking ads, or making their targeting any worse than necessary?

Well, go to http://ninjakiwi.com/Games/Tower-Defense/Bloons-Tower-Defense-5.html and click on the Play Now button (if they show you the BTD5 Deluxe ad, you can turn it off by clicking the X in the upper right corner). See how the screen around the game turns black? They block their own ads! Why? Because their ads were causing the game to crash. Me, I don't find rich media ads valuable enough to risk crashing the browser.

Is your self-will so weak? I very rarely am influenced by or click on ads.

Why not block them and save some bandwidth then? If advertisements are wasted on you, you'd be doing the advertiser a favor.

But if I have to see ads, I'd rather they be well targeted to my interests.

I agree with this myself. The people who disagree tend to do so based on privacy grounds. Me, I'd much rather advertisements focused on showing me naked supermodels engaged in lesbian play. Of course, there may be times when that is inappropriate.

And the ads are not particularly bothersome. What is the big deal really?

Perhaps you are simply less bothered than me or just lucky in your advertisements. Some examples of advertisements that I've seen:

1. A picture covers the entire page, blocking the content.
2. A video starts blaring audio at me.
3. An animation of a shapely girl's torso turning into a fat girl's torso.
4. The top of a bald man's head.

Advertisements seem to increasingly follow the stricture that if they can become 100% more annoying that they will be 10% more effective. Wouldn't we be better off if advertisements were a quarter of the annoyance and only 80% as effective?
