Re:Why journalism?
No Agenda Show is surprisingly good at media deconstruction - Ancient "PC Magazine" Columnist John C. Dvorak, and the Podfather (essentially the creator of podcasting, ex MTV Video-DJ) Adam Curry.
They don't really get into partisan shit, but they call out BS and lies in the media and give a 3rh show bi-weekly. 100% listener supported, so you don't have to worry about bias due to advertiser pressures. Because they've been in "The Industry" yet Criticize it, they're essentially blacklisted and will never be able to work in "Journalism" since John & Adam been proven not to keep their mouths shut and toe the media-narrative line.
It's really all the international news you need. Listen long enough and you'll see that all the media outlets are lying pieces of shit, and there's really nothing to worry about once their sensationalist scaremongering is debunked.
I like to listen, in the morning.

Re:Same with Youtube
Just curious, how do you propose that these content creators get paid for their contents if they cannot get ad revenue or ask for donations or have sponsors?
Advertising like that is dying.
- It's a bad investment for advertisers.
- Companies will influence what content creators say so they can remain "ad friendly".
- It's annoying to your audience.
A better (and working) model is value-for-value. It's how The No Agenda Show is supported, for 11 years now. It's how most YouTubers make money when they get "demonitized" (Patreon worked for a while, but people are leaving them in droves).
It's the SAME model as a lot of free software models.

Re:Where does the payment data go?
-
I already pay
I'm a "producer" of the No Agenda Show. Adam Curry and John C. Dvorak often talk about the corrupting influence advertising has on modern media and so therefore can't really run ads and have any integrity. It's not always a great show, but it is good enough most of the time to get me through my long commute. They also actively engage listeners and have created a community around the show. They use custom artwork, contributed by listeners for every show. A lot of it is quite good, very professional looking artwork. They encourage you to share the program, and seed Bit torrent with it. The server space is contributed, as is maintenance/moderation of the IRC chat room and live stream. If you donate enough you get recognition during the episode if you like, and there are various rewards that you receive in return for supporting the show. And they occasionally have meet-ups (put together by listeners, not by Curry or Dvorak) where fellow "producers" get together. Other podcasts do some of the same things but for the most part they seem to just recreate the same old talk radio format, just with a cheaper distribution channel. And of course they are beholden to the sponsors, who can destroy a podcast with one phone call.
The traditional way of producing audio and video, along with expecting to pay for it through ad revenue, is dead except for sports and big blockbuster films. The expense of paying for board operators and production people backing up talent (and in the case of NPR and other traditional media outlets producers, editors and copywriters), isn't going to be sustainable when your download rates are measured in the hundreds of thousands and ad responses are under single digit percentages. Direct payment and community building around your production are what will drive media in the future. Sure, Curry's skill as a DJ and audio engineer comes in handy when producing since he can act as a board op and talent, but as audio production tools improve opportunities for novice podcasters will follow. What's really going to be difficult is video podcasting because we're still not able to produce a convincing virtual set, but with all that retail space opening up in the post-amazon retail world, maybe someone will figure that out too.

Re:NPR is incorrectly funded.
If you limit NPR's sponcers to federal backing, then they'll (continue to) be the fed's bitches.
Donations from private individuals only is the way to go. Here's a podcast that uses the donation only model and calls BS on NPR et. al. shenanigans.
They have no government or corporate sponsors so they can say things that no one else can. Another podcast trying (but somewhat failing) to do the same thing is The Daily Tech News Show (but they got fucked into partnering with the frog pants network).
Seriosly, NPR and PBS are about as ethical as any other propaganda. Let them do whatever they want, just don't expect credibility. Which is to say, take everything they put out with a grain of salt and do your own damn fact checking (you won't, lazy good for nothing normals).

Re:Podcasting is Dead
There are still some gems out there. You should check out Adam Curry and John C. Dvorak's No Agenda Show.

Re:Where are they?
That's funny because most citizens thing the corporations are obnoxious criminals pushing their own agenda.
Everyone has an agenda. Everyone is a criminal if you pass enough laws.

Re:Tax planning and rich people
No, Alex Jones is nothing but hyperbole gold-selling crap with very little (if any) substance.
I do like these guys, even though their show is never anything that would persuade anyone, but it's really good if you already have an idea of who the real bad guys are these days. At least they always source everything. They do come up with some crackpot theories, but everything they put out is easily verifiable.

Re:iPads are cool and all
Ah right, the deficit, so nice of us to pay attention to it now, after the debt clock has been upgraded a few times to keep up with all those digits!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Debt_Clock
You know how we could really run that sucker down? How about we cut ALL spending, eff education, healthcare for citizens, HA! Just bloody well pay up, or you'll end up in our *essential* services, like Gitmo!

Re:We all know PETA is crazy
Hi Urkki,
Why would we believe it right to treat others as our "resources"? Thats a terrible way to describe one another, "you're my resource" ! Sounds like No Agenda :-)
I dont think there can be shades of "what is property and who is another being", do you? Someone is either someONE or someTHING.
Could we use an example from my second last blog post please? I commented here, as I've mentioned already, about the ad I saw calling Chickens "IT". How do you feel about the ad, in regards to the videos of my Chicken Friends also on the page? How would we define a time when its "right" for us to override any Right they have to NOT be property? http://coexistingwithnonhumananimals.blogspot.com/2010/12/chicken-so-tasty-it-sells-itself.html Best wishes Urkki -
Re:What's the deal with the rush of TSA stories re
No Agenda Show actually. They exposed (as the first scanners were going in) that the former chief of Homeland Security (Chertoff) is the one responsible for bringing them in. Nevermind his security consulting group has a client that manufactures the machines. No Agenda has been consistently months ahead of both the news and public reaction on a number of similar issues. http://noagendashow.com/

I KNOW many BD/SM people will get sent through...
to get publicly humiliated by the TSA. That would be AWESOME slave training and public humiliation. (Its for reals peeps.)
I'm just waiting for the first internet porno shot at a TSA line to come out (complete with moaning, groaning, [Sleepless In Seattle style,] and "shamefaced with embarrassment" done for FREE courtesy of the airlines and the TSA. It can even be shot in 720P video for nothing with a Flip HD video cam. WOW. What has the TSA wrought?)
If I should ever fly again, I'm personally going to go through making as much loud moaning, crying, histrionics and really weird whimpers as I can manage (trying not to burst out laughing right in the video camera.)
Luckily, for the TSA's officers, I'm planning to take the train.
Its like the "No Agenda" [ http://www.noagendashow.com/ ] song: "Trains good, planes bad..."
Ass wads...
