Dr. Clayton Forrester
...from the original War of the Worlds .
He went fishing, saw aliens, flew a plane, killed an alien, watched the Army try to nuke the aliens, lost the girl, wound up in church. And he didn't even need to kill the rest of the aliens.
Also, the Professor on Felix the Cat. Much better then the Master Cylinder. -
Backbone Nomenclature
few of you know that Internet2 and NLR (National Lambda Rail) have been in talks for some time
... Internet2 has now reached an agreement with an unnamed carrier for it's next generation backbone. The new network will likely be named later this year.
In honour of the Tri-Lambda crew, I think we should name the new network "Revenge of the Nets" -
Sikorsky X-Wing
Hmm... are you referring to the V22 Osprey?
From the sound of it he is referring to the Sikorsky X-Wing The idea was to build a conventional helicopter that had rotors who generated lift no matter how they were oriented by using compressed air that was bled over the rotor surfaces to create lift. I am no aerodynamicist but I think this concept is called a boundary layer control system (like blown flaps). The X-Wing would thus be able to take off like a Helo but could fix the rotors in place and have them act like conventional wings for high speed flight. The X-Wing was abandoned in favor of the V-22 which is a more elegant if troubled solution. I rather liked the X-Wing though it was the closest engineers ever got to creating a real world AirWolf. -
Re:Who?
Maybe Dr Who didn't get a big run in the USA. It ran every week day for most of my childhood in Australia in the 70s-80s. There were only two channels, so if you weren't watching the news, you were watching Dr Who. In the same time slot they also used to run The Goodies, The Kenny Everett Video Show and Monkey. Growing up in Australia or England you would certainly have been exposed to all four of these shows as a kid.

Re:mining the moon for hydrogen-3
More importantly, there is also a source of a unique and highly-valuable soup although, Shrub may have to send in the army to defeat the Clangers who have the whole supply bought up under exclusive contract. They might have to use nukes to defeat the soup dragon though.

Texas or Lee Majors?
There's only one real Austin, just as there's only one real Paris. Both are in Texas.
;)
The real Austin is an aging ex-astronaut.

Re:I remember saturday mornings
Did anyone besides me watch Tomfoolery? Based on the nonsense poetry of Edward Lear, et al. Came on around 6am, and depending on whether you grokked it, it was either the coolest or the stupidest thing on tv.
I blame it for my inability to appreciate *real* poetry.
