  5. They are watching... on New FBI Operations Manual Increases Surveillance · · Score: 1

They are always watching you. No matter what you type, text, or tweet, they can and will read it and you will never even know.

After facebook facial recognition technology comes to fruition, your behavior patterns will be analyzed and recorded, and you may be 're-programmed' to fit back in to society nicely. If you fail to comply with the surveillance overlords, you must be prepared for the inevitable consequences.
The 'land of the free and the home of the brave' thanks you in advance for your cooperation.
    Have a nice day.

    In my humble opinion.

  8. Re:Biting the hand that feeds you on TI vs. Calculator Hobbyists, the Next Round · · Score: 1

Because there is a profit in it?

  9. Wronghaven on Judge Puts Righthaven Cases In Colorado On Hold · · Score: 4, Insightful

    It's a haven of wrongdoing!

But seriously, if we are going to sue every website and blog for re-posting photos found on the web, the internet is going to have to shut down due to widespread copyright violations.

  10. Does anyone even use these any more? on TI vs. Calculator Hobbyists, the Next Round · · Score: 1

I remember being FORCED to buy a TI graphing calculator in order to pass a college mathematics course. I remember all we needed it for was to plot graphs, which could have been (and probably should have been) done on paper. I didn't really learn anything by using it, except how to use the calculator. I used it for a couple months and then promptly sold it when I was done with the course.
What a scam by my college and TI.

  11. Apple is a religion on Apple Causes Religious Reaction In Brains of Fans · · Score: 1

Just like any other one, you have to pay to truly 'belong' and you must never, ever take the Jobs name in vain.

  12. Lazy Stars on 'Homeless' Planets May Be Common In Our Galaxy · · Score: 1

"the researchers estimated that there are nearly two free-floaters for every star in our galaxy."

Someone really needs to tell these stars to remember to flush when they are done with their solar discharges.

  13. Cost / benefit analysis of monitoring everything on Academic Publishers Ask The Impossible In GSU Copyright Suit · · Score: 1

"...the publishers also want access to all computer systems on the campus network, to monitor compliance and copying."

Okay so the publishers are going to hire a small army of people to enforce this monitoring provision? Sounds like that cost will outweigh any losses incurred from anyone copying more than 10% of their material.
    Sounds pretty stupid to me.

  14. Funny, I heard the same thing about their cameras on Computer Records Hold Key In IMF Head's Sexual Assault Case · · Score: 4, Interesting

I heard on the radio the other day that hotel and city surveillance cameras were going to be the key to prove his innocence or guilt since they are virtually EVERYWHERE in New York City.
The other interesting tidbit of information is that DSK said that he would be set-up in some sort of entrapment sex scandal a few weeks before he arrived in the USA.
    Makes you wonder...

  15. Privacy concerns on Kaspersky Calls For 'Internet Interpol' · · Score: 1

I understand his concern, especially after Kaspersky son's kidnapping, but this would erode online privacy to say the least.

'described himself as an “optimistic paranoid” when it came to online security'
I guess an optimistic paranoid is hoping that the next security technology is better than the one before, but never really trusting anything or anyone.

  16. No more dangerous plants on fault lines... on Local Atmosphere Heated Rapidly Before Japan Quake · · Score: 0

...or flood zones, tsunami zones, or any other areas where natural disasters are more LIKELY to happen.
Alternatively, we could fast-track the production and efficiency of green, renewable energy which sounds like the best solution since it is extremely difficult to predict an earthquake.

  22. Re:Sony's security team is an abysmal failure on PSN Up, And Then Down Again · · Score: 1

The other suitable way is to visit each PSN network member personally in their homes and verify through a series of extremely-intrusive questions, birth-certificate verification, and DNA tests that they indeed are who they say the are.

  23. Sony's security team is an abysmal failure on PSN Up, And Then Down Again · · Score: 3, Insightful

Did Sony's security team even THINK about testing and verifying they were doing was indeed secure when they brought the system back up again?

Sounds like the corporate culture over at Sony is horrible. First the DRM scandal, then the PSN hack and now this.
