Re:Programmable Number Plates
Funny thing about people going around corners too fast is that they do not stay on the road. Would you also teach your kids not to sleep in their beds for fear of a truck driving through it?

Who cares?

Re:Well no, not reallyIn a way, Hezbollah uses very modern weapons, western media, to fight the war. No use of radio? How do you think the images of bloodshed, real and staged made its way to the west? Pigeons? Yea I think Pigeons would work well enough, strap a Micro-SD card full of Jpegs and Videos to it's leg and send it merrily on it's way back to base.
Wasn't there a study comparing the data transmission speeds of Wye-Fly to ADSL?
Oh look a link http://www.notes.co.il/benbasat/5240.asp
Oh look the linked experiment was done in Israel Just remember Windows may cause Pigeons to crash fatally...
Just a side note that you are also wrong about what would have happened with Hezbollah.
If the problems in the middle east have taught us anything it's that everyone is somebody's Brother or Father or Uncle or Nephew and that A Semite Never Forgets.
That being said if Israel splattered any group in large numbers they would find themselves totally dog piled, Western Media condemnation or not. -
It won't be expensive, but will take time...... and patience:
- RFC 1149 - Standard for the transmission of IP datagrams on avian carriers
- RFC 2549 - IP over Avian Carriers with Quality of Service
And don't try to protest that homing pigeons are impractical! They have been tested in a real implementation and has actually been demonstrated to be faster than ADSL.

Re:Interference with my sig!
Just another reason to continue using a more robust system
I agree. I'm happy its spring now so I can finally post back on slashdot with TCP/IP using pigeons.

Re:I foresee web 3.0...
No, no. This is the future of the internet.

That's pretty slow
Only 60 DVD's per second? Any modernized form of SNAP (PDF), say using a number of donkeys in parallel or even a fully mechanical equivalent (truck, jet), could beat that any day.

What about the Snail-based Data Transfer Protocol?
Apparently the Snail-based Data Transfer Protocol (which uses a giant african snail pulling a Ben-Hur-style chariot whose wheels are two 4.7GB DVDs) has a faster data transfer rate than ADSL.
At least in terms transfer rate, walking or driving to the store is much more efficient than downloading a game over the current version of the internet, if you can walk or drive faster than a giant african snail can crawl. And face it, today's top games are no longer the size of three or four 3.5 floppies, we are talking one to four DVDs minimum, usually double-density. -
Re:thats why
I have resorted to pigeons. This post was sent via a pigeon which flew to India where my outsourced-poster hit the submit button
Forget pigeons, harness the awesome bandwith of snails with SNAP.

Re:Contingency For Ethernet
Well, SNAP beats them all... and gives new meaning to the term "Snail Mail".

2.27Mbps2.27Mbps last time I checked. That is faster than ADSL!
;)Here is my reference.

Re:Back of envalope
Actually, from this link, the pigeons flew the 100km in 206, 136, and 233 minutes respectively. That makes 18.12, 27.49, and 16.02 miles per hour. Not sure what motivated pigeon #2.
