Convenience vs necessity
Umm, you can stroll down to your local Walmart, Dollar Store, Gas Station and trade your cash for a pre-paid "credit-card" anytime.
Of course but you think there are a lot of Walmarts and gas stations in Manhattan? I'm sure there are alternatives where you can get a pre-paid debit card but it sure as hell is a lot less convenient than carrying the cash that is already in your wallet. Furthermore there is a cost to doing that. Time, fuel, financing charges (the cards aren't free), etc.
Lets not even address the elephant in the room, of in modern society you just need a credit card and internet for that matter to function
That's not even remotely true. I have had dozens of people work for me who do not have credit cards and a few of them have pretty much zero interest in the internet. You can get by just fine without the internet. Don't confuse what you find convenient with what is actually necessary to function. Hell, there are huge swaths of the US where internet access is dicey to non-existent. I've gone into plenty of restaurants and other stores that are cash only. You can pay for all your bills, get all your food, and pay for your housing and never touch a credit or debit card once. Doing so can be convenient but it's not required.

Re:rare and well done
I don't really care enough to dig up documentary evidence.
And that's why nobody gives a shit about it when you blather on about it. Really, it's your own choice. You have produced nothing but innuendo and aspersion, or when you do claim evidence, it's tenuous fabrications, so...what do you think is going to happen?
I'll tell you what happens, people stop giving a shit about what you have to say.
It's happening - there were ample records of this back in the 90s in New York City - in particular, the 1989 mayoral election.
This would be more persuasive if you hadn't previously said it was occurring in cities where nobody expected a competitive election. But no, Giuliani's claim isn't that legitimate. Maybe if he'd effectively proven his allegations then, you'd get some reform beforehand, but oh wait, he didn't, he just managed to win in 1993. And 1998. Then he got the only reason he has any claim to fame, though oddly he seemed to have some memory loss for partisan reasons.
Personally I'd just point to them being off-year elections, never favored those myself. Don't need to prove any allegations there. Of course, that'd be dozens of state elections, but eh, what do you care?
My father was involved in Jersey politics...no one there would argue the position you are arguing, since we all knew it to be true.
Then why don't you get your father to turn in his evidence? Why don't you turn him in yourself? That's what you'd do if you had integrity.
But, i'll leave this here for you, since you doubt such things.
Yeah, you choose to link to a spectacularly non-informative page where most of the page is google news feed links?
That does you a LOT of harm to your credibility. Really, a vapid and vacuous article, and that's what you choose to link? That's almost worse than if you'd linked that Veritas stuff. C'mon, show some discernment, and realize how badly you're messing up.
Be honest with yourself. Be serious about your own conduct.

Re:It's ok.Define cheap:
Cuomo said the total anticipated cost would "incapacitate" New York taxpayers, making federal help a necessity.
The state is seeking roughly $32 billion from the federal government. That's revised from the original $30 billion estimate.
In addition, New York will seek another $9 billion for mitigation and prevention, making the total package roughly $42 billion.
"I'm sure there will be different factions in our party, may be some in the other, who will try to resist that," Republican Rep. Peter King said. "But we have to stand together, and certainly the speaker of the house has told us that he is going to work with New York to get the money that it needs."
$40BN is 80 times Soylindra. From one storm. And it's only just getting started.

Re:Charities?
And I'll point out that last night here in Brooklyn, a woman hung herself in a police station over a marijuana arrest:

Yes, and it causes people and animals to routinely get shocked:

every other year its a surplus this or a devicit of that in the hundreds of millions. someone at the mta cant count.
then of course the 25 dollar fine for drinking on the train will clear all that up if its the case. http://ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?&aid=53879&se arch_result=1&stid=5 -

Re: 3,500 more votes than voters in King County?
It certainly is evidence of fraud.
You say the list is "incomplete". Maybe. But it's rare that lists of registered voters are incomplete. Why? Because voters are often left on such lists after they move or die. Consider the 46,000 voters registered in BOTH New York and Florida. (It's interesting that only 12% of these duel-registered voters were Republican whiel 68% were Democrat.) Lists of such voters are going to show MORE registered voters than votes, not less.
"It's not an argument for anything at all", my a55.
I really hope there is a national investigation of vote fraud. Considering felons are overwhelmingly more likely to be Democrat than Republican, I have no doubt which group is most likely to commit fraud.

Re:How dare they?
Nope.
It's even safer now than in 1997. By a LARGE margin.
Thank you. Come again. -
Re:How dare they?
Slashdot added a space between the 2 and the 9, did you notice that? Let me try again: here now.
Better? I guess it's more convenient now that the link works. -
Re:How dare they?
I wouldn't call the Safest Large City in America (of 10 largest cities in America) "crime-ridden." In fact, looking at what technically is considered a city (greater than 100,000 pop), NYC ranks 211 out of 230 in the country (higher number is better.)
New York City fights crime better than any other city in America. The fact that at 8 million people, it's safer than most cities of 100,000 people is amazing. -
Re:New York
New York does do this. You have the option of calulating what you owe based on the state sales tax, using their "estimate"
For example, if you earn between $30,000 and $50,000, the state recommends you pay $26. If you earn between $50,000 and $75,000, the recommended payment is $34. And if you earn between $75,000 and $100,000, it's recommended you pay $43.
or declaring no out of state purchases. -
Re:I've seen this before
Well, actually a professor at Columbia University (Dr. Tony Jebara) was just interviewed about his "new device [that] may turn billiards beginners into high-tech pool sharks". The article was at http://www.ny1.com/Living/technology.html. It looks very cool. Also he just bought a pool table for the department to test his stuff on, and given that my office is just a few doors down from his, I will enjoy playing for hours (so much for my PhD).

JFK Airtrain
However, Airtrain which will connect JFK to the Jamaica terminal is nearing completion.
Airtrain will not only go to the Jamaica terminal, it will also connect all of the JFK terminals to the subway station at Howard Beach (the A line).Unfortunately, it looks like a recent accident will delay the Airtrain project.

Re:FPS value is wrong.Riiiight, as opposed to elegant waste's of space.
Please... there's no balls behind any of the official proposals. And the idea that the surface area where the two towers once stood is "hallowed ground" and CANT be built upon makes me cringe. There's other ways to memorialize the general area without being so simpleminded.

Funny
I recall that Time Warner set up a relay of NY1 on their national system... why would this be legal? Just because it's a "cable" channel and not OTA?
