Try One or Zero helpdesk software...
We've been using this tool for more than 6 years now. Excellent code, easily customisabele... it's written in PHP. We've modified the default software to include SMS, email alerts, SLAs etc. Initially we used it for Helpdesk, but now we've extended it to Accounts, Leave Management, Purchase Requests, General Administration, HR dept. and even for Bug Tracking in s/w development.
Reply under this post and I will email more details.

I've been meaning to ask
I've submitted a few questions to Ask Slashdot to see what other
/.ers use for CRM and helpdesk management, but my submissions have been rejected.
I work for a growing IT company (just passed 30 employees) and we're looking for a web-based system to handle not only our sales but also our helpdesk and order processing systems if possible. So far we've been looking at OneOrZero (open source) and the Allbase Suite (commercial).
Does anybody have any recommendations? -
OneorZero
I would recommend http://www.oneorzero.com/. Lots of functionality and easy to use.

One or Zero
One of Zero is a better than average ticketing system we've been trying out for the last several months for tracking issues/work requests and small project. Open source, easy to setup, LAMP base. I have a few issues with the current reporting options (they just aren't good enough for generating something simple to use for invoice creation), but it's been the best we've found for our small shop. There is supposed to be a completely new version sometime soon that is a rewrite from scratch and promises all sortsa nifty features . .
.we'll see. Oh, and my small office runs business software, not vice versa...Skynet has yet to take control. -
One Or Zero
I just got One or Zero installed last night. You don't say exactly what sort of issues you are tracking, but you may find that it works for you. It isn't the best written thing in the world, but some of the other stuff I looked at seems worse. One bug I discovered (with help from another guy -- can't take credit for the discovery) is that it fails horribly if you install it in a directory named admin. I'm going to have to submit a bug report and a post to thedailywtf.com about that.
Anyhoo... http://www.oneorzero.com/ -
Let them test another package?
Maybe let them compare and choose which system they like to use.

Works well, and open source too
OneOrZero is what the college I worked at last year uses, and I was quite impressed with it. FOSS too.

Re:Soso how about if you name one that you've had some personal experience with, with your commentary about its pro's and con's, instead of just giving an arrogant "look it up yourself" answer such as "look on source forge"?
as to the actual question, using a prebuilt system might not always be the best answer. developing a very simple PHP+MySQL ticketing system may be the best result, as you will have only what is exactly pertinent in your scenario. in a couple of my past experiences we felt it was easier in our situation to build something basic from scratch rather than extensively custom tailor a pre-existing system.
however, i did check out the link mentioned in an earlier thread, http://www.oneorzero.com/ and from the demo it seems like it could be a very well rounded tool, which i will be looking into. -

Solar Eclipse and the X-Files
Is it just me, or does this picture look very similar to one of the opening shots from the X-Files, where what seems to be a spirit or alien form with arms outstretched depicts the "X".
The same could be said for this picture but the lines are too narrow. -
