    There's a bit in the Real Dolls documentary where they're talking to one of the creators of Real Dolls and ask about the weird requests that they have turned down. Young people is the obvious one. They also had a dog breeder who wanted a Real Dog because he was "tired of hurting his dogs". And how about the guy who sent in photos of his pensioner mother asking if they could make a Real Doll of her?

    But when it comes to real controversy, as usual the Japanese already got there first.

    Do you mean anatomically correct as in "looks real" or as in "fully implemented genitals"? I have no doubt that the latter will happen in Japan considering what they already produce (NSFW).

    I think Japan (NSFW) will have to worry about that more than we. From what I heard there is no law against importing these so I can't see why anybody would get arrested over a RealDoll. AFAIK US child pornography laws only applies to media involving actual children, any virtual children, sculptures, dolls, etc are considered art and protected by the first amendment.

    Currently I don't think anybody could get you for making a sexbot that looks like a 10 year old girl. Don't worry, once the think-of-the-children people hear of your archievement they'll lobby for a law in no time. Please build that robot, we could use something to distract these people from their current favourite topic, violent videogames.

    Apparently, sex dolls are really quite popular in Japan.

    A quick google leads to: "Orient Industry" [Warning: site has some pictures of nude dolls.]

    Could this be the reason that the Japanese birth rate is so low?
