Re:Camera
iOS6 has an *amazing* panoramic mode. I haven't seen anything anywhere that resembles it in terms of ease of use and quality of the shots produced.
It even works on my iPhone 4S.
You can see a sample I made in 7 seconds while bored. My first shot at the functionnality: http://france.palmdrive.net/pb/2012/09/23/1348404600000.html (Just click on the image)

Re:Great assumption
To be honest, after having spent more than $400 in LED bulbs (that's not many bulbs trust me), most of them have died after a year or so. I'm talking about the bulbs, not the LEDs of course. I have no doubt they still have 25000 hours in stock, buit without the electronic to light them, it's very little use.
My blog on the subject (in french...)

Re:That long eh?
I am happy (and proud) to say that only 58% of the visitors to my various websites use IE.
Hmmm, since your url is: http://nerds.palmdrive.net/, I'm not surprised you have fewer IE users. -
Re:Google's first serious misstep?
I see this as a great opportunity. But Google will only ever have the same leverage that Apple has over the Majors. What we really need, is Google (or another well-publicized company) to become a music label. They have the guts to do their own promotion, they can distribute non-DRM stuff and they can easily attract existing well-known artists with attractive deals.
This IMO is the only short-term hope against the majors.
Basically, we need a Good Guy (TM) with deep pockets to raise a middle finger to the majors.
However, I fear this is not going to happen anytime soon.

Re:Deeper level comparision
Not mentionning all the 20years old games are displayed with screenshots vs the newer games where prerendered 'commercial' pictures are displayed...
How can this be called a 'comparison' ? They are comparing apples with oranges on a superficial level only... Good job at screwing up!

Re:Journalism at its finest
Actually, you're not even close to what it is. This is an amendment (dunno if it's an english word) to a law they are trying to pass, very close to the DMCA. This is there to shut up the people so they look quite positive overall with the entire thing. They they'll remove it just before getting it voted and it'll pass without the crap you're talking about.
Don't be mistaken, the music industry has a big influence in France as well, and they'll not give up on that one. Proof is the damn thing was supposed to be voted in December but the parliament is opposing much more resistance than the majors suspected.

Re:So true...
Not only that, but the thing just looks like a big advertisement for the Mac Mini. There are overall two sentences about Windows MCE in the entire 'article':
However, compared to the hair-pulling ceremonies we've held getting Window Media Center PCs to display anything at all on a TV, the Mac has delivered a nasty right-hook to Microsoft's fighter.
And:
Compared to the hours we've spent coaxing similar results out of a Microsoft Media Center system, the Mini is definitely ahead so far.
These guys have a serious problem. I don't even know how anyone can take this king of bullsh*t seriously. They probably just forgot to plug the outlet of the PC... PCs are so complex compared to Macs...

Re:Sorry to be Negative....
DOS is dead!?
Yes, it is indeed.
wow, then what is this cmd, edit, ping, tracert, netstat, and so forth?
cmd is a command intepreter. The rest are commands integrated to Windows XP (among other Windows).
Last I checked those were DOS commands
Hummm... Nope. These are text-based commands, loaded with Windows. Text-based does not mean DOS.
When I have to use the recovery console, what is that CLI interface about?
It's just that, a CLI interface to Windows.
Now I know you didn't really mean DOS was dead
I think he did.
Thanks to Vista I'll be using the command prompt more often
Do so, buit don't be mistaken. Text mode is not DOS. Otherwise, Linux would be DOS. God help us...

Re:sigh
Yes, a great idea. I can already see how internet would work MUCH better this way
I think a little fact escaped your narrow mind: There are on this planet around 6 billion people that do not speak english natively.
For english speaking people, it makes more sense to have TLDs in english. For Chinese speaking people, it makes more sense to have them in chinese.
To each its own. Oh - and think outside the box.

Re:Is the lack of drivers...
The adoption of an operating system has always been the direct or indirect cause of ONE factor, and not 100. The applications. The more applications the better.
Linux is slowly gaining ground over Windows on that front, but we're still FAR from getting there. Windows is the desktop king because almost EVERY application will run on it, irregardless of it running on another OS. THIS AND ONLY THIS is the key factor, as far as personal computers are concerned.
For development, Linux is as rich as Windows (if not richer) application-wise. As a result, many programmers are using Linux.
For general desktop usage, we're just not there yet. Image and video processing just doesn't cut it. Editing software (XPress), DVD copying (tons of soft), MP3 everything (zillions of software), iTunes (important to some), crappy drivers for stupidly cheap USB keys, bluetooth devices, cheap MP3 players, etc...
No matter how you cut it, the Linux application landscape isn't there yet. And don't cite one app in each category I have cited, for the vastness of the Windows applications there far outspace Linux's one.
I've always been in between Linux and Windows, just waiting to make the switch. But to be realistic, Windows has always had a huge advance on that front.

Re:Server Platform
These guys are just plain insane. Just one more example of how being a monopoly (or overly dominant) can just blind you.
Reminds me of Apple's position before Jobs got back in there. Their catalog was HUGE, with tens of different versions.
Jobs got there and cut it down in three: iMac, Laptop and Server. Down from dozens to three, very clearly potitionned. In no time, they got back in the market.
Of course, that was not the only factor. By far, but still...
Anyways, it won't recognize my RPC-1 drive... So I guess it's time to switch this HTPC to Linux after all. Cause the MS route is definitely blocked. There is no way in hell I'm going to buy an OS that doesn't let me play my DVDs the way I want it.

Re:800 SF?
Well, we're not really sure about the surface. It is either 800 sq feet, and 74 sq meter, or 244 sq meter and then a huge 2626 sq feet.
See Here for conversions.
