Re:Reasons to love PYTHON!
It's worth mentioning that, at least in IRC, this is the preferred medium. It should work elsewhere, too, and there are scripts to assist in it.
Your point is valid, but I don't believe I should constrain the format of a language because it won't work in some mediums. Should I not include []-bracketed arrays because bbcode might hate them?
In languages that use delimiters as block and line markers, you can run a code beautifier to standardize the code, and even fix code that is horribly malformatted. If the white space gets screwed up really bad in a python program (line endings are deleted somehow), it will it not only fail to run, it will require a human to go in and unscrew it.
Ah, but if the whitespace gets screwed up in a python program, that's equivalent to the bracketing getting screwed up in a C-style program. So the difference is that broken whitespace is not the domain of a code beautifier in Python, anymore than brackets and parentheses are the domain of a code beautifier in just about any language.
Also, code beautifiers are still going to leave some things out of place, particularly comments which are spaced to match the code.

Re:Why? Re:Block it
You need BITS (background "stupid" transfer service) aswell, and they both have to be set to autostart for some reason(might be in case you have to reboot and then continue the update, I dunno). I made a batch file that I use for toggling the services ( http://pastebin.com/m65e04886 ) Run it as admin, no reboot needed

Re:One can hope...
We were a (relativly) new company, so they made us put a $250 deposit just to open a line of service. That may have helped.
Anyhow, the process I went through was this:
Went into store, showed copy of flight itenary (to Europe).
Cingular store rep called tech support, which placed in a request for escalation.
I got an email from Cingular with the code.
Since I really do have nothing in particular to hide, I've even included a copy of the email I received, headers and all.
Yes, it's an HTML email. Yes, it looks ugly. Yes, it was created in Microsoft Word, and the grammar sucks. Don't blame me. The unlock code worked.
Here it is.
The second phone I had unlocked, I again went into the store. This was the day before I had to leave for europe, and was the phone I bought off eBay. They again called Tech Support, and had it escalated. They gave the code over the phone, and I had the instructions for how to use it already.
So, YMMV, but it worked for me for a corporate account with an existing $250 deposit.
In general, the only carrier I haven't been able to get a code from was T-Mobile (never tried with Verizon). For Sprint (at least with treos), you just whine about vision isn't working. Tell them what they try isn't working. At some point, they will tell you do do a vision reset. There are two unlock codes for the phone. The first is a one-time code, and it may have been used activating the phone. The second one is the permanent code. Tell them the first one doesn't work, and they will give you a second one. You now have both.
So, yeah, getting the code on a subsidized phone does occasionally involve some "social engineering" (read lying). They don't know they can collect on an early termination fee. So, buy the phone outright, wait for your contract to expire, use T-Mobile for 3 months, or learn to lie really well. -
Re:Something similar with iptablesSee this.
It's kind of messy, with stuff commented in and out.... but it works for me. It's got tables, lists, altq (crude, but effective), and labels, but no anchors. The labels look great when checking rule matching with pftop.

Re:This is interesting
Basically, it has to be voip, video, and eWhiteboard.
Offtopic, but there's a website called http://pastebin.com/ which you can use to share code. They do formatting for most programming languages. ... Finally, the whiteboard make sharing code fragments much easier.
They call it a "collaborative debugging tool"
I know that you wouldn't want to rely on a 3rd party website during a disaster, but it's pretty nifty. You can even make 'private' pastebins by typing in http://something.pastebin.com/ If you don't know what "something" is, you don't see the stuff. -

Re:From the inside
And I happen to be an Alumni of this school. I found out about this yesterday and sent an e-mail to the ISC website asking how they could come to their conclusions from the quotations that they posted from the assignment. Their logic simply doesn't work out. They responded and said that they know for sure that they're right and that I can't make any kind of judgement because I don't have the full text of the assignment (as if they wouldn't quote the parts that most support their claims).
I then obtained a scanned copy of the assignment from one of the lan managers that this was mailed to. I will quote two parts that they didn't include here:
Your evaluation should determine some or all of the following:
- Host name and IP address.
- Operating system, version, last update, patch status.
- Open ports and, where possible, suggestion of the type of service provided on each port.
- Shared disk drives and printers.
- Network traffic.
- Vulnerabilities.
Note that the above does not say to break in to the system.
Note: Since your remote evaluations of computer systems cannot be purely passive, you must take care to ensure that your actions are not seen as intrusive or threatening to the computer site being investigated. You are to conduct your investigation using tools available in the public domain and must not attempt to hack into the system. If you detect vulnerabilities in the system, you must not exploit those vulnerabilities. If you are challenged by a system manager, you may explain your actions and provide a copy of this document. You may also offer to provide a copy of your report to the system manager on completion of your evaluation. If asked to cease and desist, you are to do so immediately and consider another site for your investigation.
In addition, the ISC had added "(AKA break ins)" into a quote without any identifying formatting to show that this was their commentary. Without this text the claims that they are making can only be described as knee-jerk scare-mongering. (I see that they have finally altered their text to make it explicit that this is their addition and not part of the assignment.)
I would like to point out again that this assignment does not tell students to hack the system or exploit any vulnerabilities. Port scans and simple checks for what software is running on a machine is not illegal.
if you'd like to see a full copy of the assignment in plaintext (without any identifying remarks).

Re:No words will fix the problem.
On the off chance you really would like to help, get on IRC (irc.mozilla.org, read the MOTD for channels), DON'T speculate on things you know nothing about, DON'T think you have more of a clue than the people there, and ask for help tracking down one of the problems you experience. Make sure you're using a nightly build for reasons I've already explained. You might start by giving a specific site or action that reliably crashes you 100% of the time. Be patient too, not all channels are active all the time, and you might even have to come back on a few separate occasions. Keep in mind that some people are in different time zones, and many people may be on vacation.

Re:1997 called...
This is for ubuntu breezy and hoary, but i had no problems getting skype working with alsa.
Installed the alsa-aoss package for alsa OSS emulation.
Set up dmix properly (here is my alsa config file for my nforce 2 sound..YMMV): http://pastebin.com/392994
I then run skype as: aoss skype
I can play mp3's under beep/xmms and watch movies while talking on skype without problem. The only area ive encountered problems is skyping while playing multiplayer zsnes..framerate sucks ass. Good luck! -
Re:slashdotted already
Here is the user javascript (I use it with Opera 8 but it should work with Firefox & greasemonkey too) to add cache links. I wrote it myself because I wasn't too happy with existing ones.
If you make any changes you can do so at pastebin (it's a mini CVS). -

A whole lotta errors here. Try again, maybe with a pastebin instead? Assuming that slashcode broke it, and you're not just throwing together all of perlvar and hoping it works.
