Re:Mac Installation Still Works Like That???while checking all the dependencies on my gnu-darwin apps is great fun for recreation, and having to restart after basically everything on my win2k machine is sometimes amusing, i *LOVE* the drag-app-here style of install. what could be better?
also note that the pendrive explicitly states that it doesn't work on 10.3.1
... so i'm not sure that *directly* applies here =) -
Mac Installation Still Works Like That???
Forget the warez part of this story, I can't believe that Macintosh has managed to preserve its "drag the application to your disk" style of installation. I have to explain to my wife every six months that we can't just copy Application X to disk (or Pen Drive) and bring it upstairs; it's more complicated than that.

What, no 1G Flash?

Pen drive looks promisingI'm surprised no one has mentioned the USB Pen Drive as an alternative to DiskOnKey . The form factor is similar to DiskOnKey and Pendrive claims to plug and play: no drivers required (absolutely required for me). The pen drive also costs less per MB: $31 for 16MB at vs. $30 for an 8MB diskonkey).
I just ordered one so I'll soon find out if it lives up to it's claims.

Memory Drives
Ok, this is probably a bit offtopic, but the search is so horrible and broken I can't find the original topic. It dealt with a question about memory as a disk drive. Lo and behold, our CIO, a gadget junky if there ever was one, got his hands on a Pen Drive from Frys (an evil store in Silicon Valley we turn to as a last resort) with 64 Meg of flash RAM. You install the little driver on whichever systems you want to use it on and it plugs in through a USB port. Here's what amazed me... they actually have it working for Win98 forward, Linux, and Mac OS (dunno about OSX, check it yourself at the link above) Sizes are supposed to be up to 1 Gig, tho I've only seen vendors for the smaller capacity drives. Since it's flash it doesn't need a battery. 64Meg about $84 bucks.
