Re:ummm...noWhy wouldn't PETA do that? Maybe PETA couldn't find a home for those seals, despite, you know, not trying, or maybe they were living off humanities' effort, like cows, and thus PETA, instead of setting them 'free' to die, decided to humanely bash their heads in instead of them starving to death?
They think that we shouldn't be using any animals in any way, so obviously their success is automatically going to result in hundreds of millions of dead animals that can't live on their own. Every cow will die, every dog (Because they'd go feral and we'd have to shoot them), almost every cat, almost every horse will die if they do what they want to do. (Hence they see nothing wrong with killing almost every single animal their shelter collects, when they have way more than enough money to keep every stray in this country.)
And once you've justified the death of hundreds of millions of animals, a few more can't hurt anything. Of course, if you consider animals equivalent to people, than killing a few people is probably okay, also.
Almost no actions of PETA would surprise me. They could be discovered to running a goat prostitution ring with the goats trained to bite off the heads of their customers and steal their wallets, and I'd just blink and keep going.

Re:ummm...noAnonymous, because it's off-topic, but: http://www.petakillsanimals.com/
PETA is one of the most evil and hypocritical organizations on earth. They do far more harm to animals and animals rights than nearly anything they claim to oppose.

Re:OMFG!
They're not the only guys who kill animals, either.

Re:Anaesthetic
>So it's okay to strangle your Uncle Bob to death... so long as I anaesthetize him first?
Yes, assuming it's:
a) Legal,
b) Ethical (He asked to be euthanized and was of sound mind when asking), and
c) Moral (this would depend on your culture's ideals and/or your personal / religious standing on the issue)
While the mice obviously didn't ask to be euthanized, it is ethical virtually worldwide (you'd probably manage to find one or two exceptions, although I still think you'd be working hard to find them) in scientific practices that mice are used for scientific purposes where they meet such an end. It's also considered moral by most cultures (Although, again, there are some exceptions. Surprisingly enough, PeTA is *NOT* one of them, they certainly agree with euthanasia). -
Re:Wait
PETA doesn't care if animals suffer. They only care if humans do. If you don't believe me, then explain why PETA euthanizes about 80% of all animals they take in. And if they cared so much about the dignity of animals, why do they dump them in trash bins after they kill them?
No, PETA hates humans and uses the compassion of decent people to allow them to continue their evil. -
Re:sub-floor
Yeah I was just reading about that yesterday. I already thought they were asshats, but now I can prove it. Interesting stuff what they do with donated money. Check out http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ and sign the petition to the IRS to take away their tax breaks. They're up to like 90K sigs.

Re:PETA?
You are right to a point. Its mainly the leadership that are the extremists. PETA kills and puts down far more animals than they save. They kill far more than shelters that do not have a no kill policy. The true meaning on PETA is People Executing Tame Animals. Oh and if you have pets acording to PETA you own SLAVES.
And that is ONLY the beginning of the hypocrisy with PETA. And with that I give you the following...
" PETA's Mary Beth Sweetland should also answer for her own personal hypocrisy. Like more than ten million Americans, she's diabetic. Sweetland injects herself daily with insulin that was tested on animals; she has conceded that her medicine "still contains some animal products -- and I have no qualms about it.... I don't see myself as a hypocrite. I need my life to fight for the rights of animals."

Re:PETA...
This PETA? http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

I hate propaganda
The http://www.petakillsanimals.com/ site is operated by the self-titled "Center for Consumer Freedom", which, according to their own web site, is "a nonprofit coalition of restaurants, food companies, and consumers" (emphasis mine). See http://www.consumerfreedom.com/about.cfm.
While I think PETA consists mainly of radical nutcases, linking to a corporate mouth-piece in an attempt to discredit them isn't exactly fair and objective, either. -
Re:Peta will have the cow, alright.
>This does not contradict PETA's principles -- so long as the animal was ethically treated while it lived and died, it is Ok to use its skin.
Considering how many animals are "murdered" under PeTAs care, I can imagine they have a lifetime supply of shoes. Perhaps they should go into business... -
Re:PETA's going to have a cow
PETA kills animals. And shrimp aren't cute, so PETA will give even less of a shit.
-
Re:PETA's going to have a cow
Yeah, and in Norfolk, VA, PETA euthanizes 85% of animals that come to the shelter, as compared to 27% at the ASPCA shelter. Do the math.
-
Re:PETA's going to have a cow
"Well, they won't have the cow, they'll treat it nicely."
Doubtful.

Or to euthanize them.
