this is why I use a local ISP
don't have cable yet still on dialup but my local isp is quite friendly and all that jazz. never have any rpoblems with them and the office where I pay my bill in cash is only ten miles away. if you live in hampton roads, va and have tired of gargantuan ISPs that might I suggest Pinnacle. I'm just a satisfied customer.

Another terrific graphical nethack
..is AllegroHack, for Windows and Linux. It's really sweet, and IMHO more complete than Falcon's Eye (the last time I played it a monkey's picuture was that of a guard!)
Also, Allegrohack works with SLASH'EM a really fun version of nethack (if a wee bit unbalanced) where you get more abilities and fun stuff like TNT. -
Right on! But...
I'm with you on that all the way. Nethack is still my favorite game.
But we mustn't forget the other interfaces available besides the Qt thingie.
http://www.pinn.net/~jry/allegrohack/
... AllegroHack uses the Allegro libs to enslicken (shutup, that's a word :P) the graphical interface that us DOS users can use. If it works, it's awesome.
http://www.pinn.net/~jry/allegrohack/ ... Falcon's Eye is a really neat "isometric 3d" interface with mouse control and everything. Still in development, but cool nonetheless.
The Nethack Site lets you set up a career ont heir server and then telnet in and play there, so that all the scores can be collected and people can compete against one another. Cute. Also, there are many other Roguelikes out there... Rogue (the original roguelike, hehe), Angband, ADOM, etc.
I'm still partial to NetHack. I could list the reasons, but it's better if you play it for yourself and see.
Diablo is a roguelike, really, just shinier and with realtime action. Durn newfangled games....
;)

REAL gaming ;)
Ah, excellent! Now you Linux folks can play with Falcon's Eye, one of several spiffier-than-the-average-16x16-tiles interfaces being designed for that paragon of gaming, Nethack.
So guess what I've been playing recently... ;-)

Hooray!
From the end of the article, under "Best of Show:"
The "game" in question involves a series of wooden blocks stacked to look like battlements. Small soldiers are optional and can be arranged any way on these blocks you see fit. Star Wars figures can be used to give it a "futuristic" theme. Walk back 10 paces and man a small, wooden, ingeniously crafted catapult...
Well, tanj. I read that while downloading the latest AllegroHack binary. I came this close (scrunches up fingers real small) to just turning off the computer right there and going to get my blocks out of the attic and my legomen from the closet. I mean, really, who needs HP and MP snd Str and Int and Exp Pts and all that when you can just destroy stuff with reckless abandon (while maintaining that fantasy setting)?
I think I need to go lie down...
