Re:Port Paint.net to Linux
There's Pinta:
Pinta is a free, open source drawing/editing program modeled after Paint.NET. Its goal is to provide users with a simple yet powerful way to draw and manipulate images on Linux, Mac, Windows, and *BSD.

Re:Photoshop
I'm happy with pinta. It does what the photo viewers do not provide and has all typical tools you would expect in a simple paint program.

It is not meant as a photoshop but as MSpaint alternative -
Re:Get a signature PC
Going to jump in here.. even though it runs on Mono... I'd say Pinta is probably the best PS substitute for *most* people's needs.. it's not the all-in though... for windows, I'd do Paint.Net
... I used to be a Paint Shop Pro fan until Corel bought out Jasc. For now, if it's basic photo editing tasks, Paint.Net or even Picasa work well enough for me... If you need the 800# gorilla, Photoshop has no equal right now. -
Re:The Name
There is a Linux alternative for Paint.NET: Pinta. It's coming along and is already decent. It's available on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Re:Inadvertently...
I already replied to you previously, but now I have a better idea what you're on about. MS Paint can't do the kinds of things that I use the GIMP for. If you want MS Paint, the GIMP is not what you are looking for. A quick google search gave me: http://pinta-project.com/
Neither the GIMP nor Photoshop is designed with that kind of simplicity in mind. They are designed for far more sophisticated uses. I don't think you are trolling. I think you are honestly pointing out what you see as a gap in available software. But just because you personally can figure out Photoshop doesn't mean it is intuitive. I have a friend who is a graphics designer who had a terrible time learning how to use it. Software designed for complex problems is rarely ideal for simple problems.

Re:That's development release
There's an effort underway to make a Paint.NET-alike for Linux, but it's currently extremely rough. Which is too bad, because Paint.NET on Linux would be nice.

Re:I'm sure...
Take a look at Pinta. It's modeled after Paint.NET.

Re:Smartest workflow move ....ever!
I'd suggest looking at Pinta. Though, to be honest, even Paint.net is missing a few features I'd like to see. (raster scaling/rotating/skewing, for example). I've used Gimp for some transforms, but the results are usually less than stellar. To be honest, my favorite UI for an image tool was probably Paint Shop Pro 8, of course after Corel bought out Jasc it kind of went down hill.
