identical markup down to comments - some changed text content
I found this from the flickr group - http://flickr.com/photos/34923023@N00/
http://www.autodemontageverwijst.nl/ - original
http://www.sinotrad.com/ - copied - chunks of identical markup - same div class id names including misspellings.
I forgot how some geeks get bent out of shape about the use of the word, "stealing" vs. "copying", so when I said "stealing" I meant "copying".
I don't feel like debating with you or the rest of the internet on this matter any further. If you want to feel like you've won some argument on the internet feel free. I'd rather spend my time on more productive pursuits like catching up on sleep or learning to be a better programmer. -
Seriously don't...
Copying someone's site design is bad policy in general.
I think the many people who either give the advice to copy or copy another site themselves risk ending up on this site:
http://pirated-sites.com/
I graduated with a BFA and took my share of communication design courses.
I worked hard the past 7 years learning to be a competent developer so I've been on both sides of the boat.
It's just bad to have some douchebag steal the site design it actually took a design degree and years of experience to create.
Geek translation: It's like someone putting GPL code in closed source software.
You 're familiar with the geek outrage when that happens.
Well that's the same outrage that designers feel when you steal a site design. -
Re:Translation for Dummies?Beatles? All public domain.
Fantastic, I'm really looking forward to the Ibiza-style boom-boom-loop remixes of "Day Tripper", cover versions of "Yesterday" by this week's 13-year-old teenie pop sensation, and "We Can Work It Out" as the background music in party political broadcasts.
Copyright in a limited fashion (7+7 years) is still evil in my mind
Absolutely. If, for example, I work hard for a couple of months to design and program a website for which I invoice my client several thousand pounds, anyone else should be completely entitled to copy the design and pass it off as their own work and neither I nor my client should have any legal recourse.

CTRL-V
Too bad Pirated Sites is down.
Basically, what Steve Mallet did, creator of Del.irio.us, is take the design, the idea, and most of the features of delicious, and copy and paste them with a special "open-source" CTRL-V buttons (he's since changed the site layout and design it would seem - to none at all)
Not unsurprisingly, there has been a flurry of discussion about del.icio.us on the del.icio.us listserv. Most of it is fairly constructive and thoughtful. I think what bothers me the most isn't that yet another social bookmarking engine is springing up. Furl and Spurl have been around for a while and there are few minor ones. But each of these generally adds something new to the mix, such as private bookmarks, or longer comments, or better integration with the browser. Del.irio.us doesn't add anything new at all.
Except maybe open-source. Yay.
It reminds me of the goold ole days, when one friend who wanted to run a BBS copied all the files and ANSI from another friend who had been running a BBS for years. Morale of the story? The second, copied, BBS sucked and died because the "creator" didn't have any innovation or creativity in him anyway. That's my call on delirious. -
kernelthread.com is meyerweb.com rip-off
It appears the design for the kernelthread.com site is a rip-off of an older version of CSS guru Eric A. Meyer's blog site. Compare the site's design to this version pulled out of The Wayback Machine. Time to let Pirated Sites know. And this from somebody who works at IBM? I'm sure somebody at SCO would find this amusing...

Pirated Sites
This reminds me of one of my favorite sites:
http://www.pirated-sites.com -
It happens all the time...
Lots more here.
-
This stuff annoys the hell out of me
These people rip these sites, pass them off as their own - even put them on their CV, and get the jobs the true talent deserve. They need stringing up.
For instance :-
www.nevermindus.com vs
www.digitalabstracts.com
There is a great selection of these on Pirated Sites -
Its not a new thing

Here's another
Here's another review at Evolt.
