Re:I haven't burned a CD in years...
You know, you *CAN* get a flash drive with a physical write-protect switch.

Re:Give me write-protected flash drives anyday!
Do you mean USB sticks with little write-protect tabs like floppies? They do exist, you know - I have one somewhere. Admittedly it's a bit old and thus only 128MB, but the functionality is there nonetheless.
A quick bit of Googling reveals that PQI still makes them in more useful capacities, and that they retain the write-protect tab. They're even still the same colour!

Re:Sony's Micro Vault Tiny is smaller
And lets not forget both the PQI Intelligent Drive i820 or the Kingmax Super Stick, both about the same size as the Sony. All three are much smaller than the article's.

pqi has had that beat for ages

Moving disks are old SSD is inI do not understand why large companies like Seagate are not jumping on the bandwagon for SSD. http://www.pqi.com.tw/news_1.asp?ID=1444
SSD is the big hit right now. No moving parts increased redundancy no seek time. It wont be long before these things start outperforming typical moving disks. I wouldn't be suprised if they don't do that already. The price on the SSD are high but not redonkulous.

Re:2 pointsI've never misplaced my USB drive yet; it goes in my wallet. (If it wasn't for the credit-card style carrying "case", I'd definitely lose the thing, though.) Mine's 1GB, and cost about $70USD when I bought it about a year ago on NewEgg.
I'm fairly certain they've got smaller things out now, but what I've got is small enough for me.

Re:iDisk
Try one of these. I have an older one and it's pretty durable.

Re:but whyWhats with all the redundant plastic?
I honestly do not know.
I'm a happy owner of two of the older PQI Intelligent Stick drives, and they easily tuck away in my wallet. They are reasonably priced too...sometimes they even cost less!

They forgot the most portable one...The PQI "Intelligent Stick" is awesome! I bought a 1GB (v2.0) one off NewEgg 6 or so months ago for about $70USD. What makes it so great? It fits in my wallet; The carrying "case" is about 4 credit-cards thick and holds 2 of them.
The only time I ever had a problem with it was when I formatted it with NTFS; I forgot about that stupid caching stuff and took it out w/o doing the whole "stop/eject" thing and lost all my data. It's now formatted as FAT32 so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

PQI
This is what PQI tried with the Intelligent Stick - theirs wasn't SD or MS etc but some new format that they were pushing to camera/mp3 player manufacturers. Didn't really take off but It's gotta be the smallest flash drive on the market.

PQI iStickI have one of these: a PQI iStick 2.0.
It's absolutely minute - far smaller than any other USB key device I've seen. It has a funny shaped contact at the end that looks like it shouldn't fit in a USB port but works perfectly.
It's made of study plastic and comes with a wallet-sized carrier/protector slightly larger than a credit card. Mine is a mere 64mb but they come in flavours all the way up to 1gb.
It works out of the box with no problems. You can use a small utility that comes on a mini-CD to add a password protected partition.
It even has a cool LCD embedded under a thin layer of plastic that gives a funky glow when transferring!
Heartily recommended. (Usual disclaimer: no relationship whatsoever with manufacturers or retailers other than I like their product.)

Re:Good prediction...Those already exist.
Although I haven't tried them personally.
