Re:Zelda, Link, and Young Link; customs
I'd venture a good percentage don't know where Gannondorf comes from.
Gannondorf-banned? There are two N's in Ganondorf, and a lot of people on fanboy forums might call you on that.
Hardly anyone knows Ness.
But a lot of people know Precious Moments. Lie and say he's a licensed character.
I can't imagine what will happen if some really obscure characters appear in the Rev version, including possibly Pit, Little Mac, etc.
Little Mac? Would Doc Louis come and steal his bike?

Put whose SD head through it?
Take a 1"x1" piece of paper and rip a hole in it so you could put your head through it without ripping it apart
First thing I thought of is that it'd be a lot harder to pull that off in chibi mode. Pity the poor Precious Moments kids who are unable to snap out of their super-deformity.

Re:No wonder they don't announce the price...
Probably only "precious" in the sense of figurines depicting hydrocephalic Eloi kids with teardrop shaped eyes.
-
Re:This could revolutionise the garden gnome indus
Forget gnomes; the new lawn ornament fad is the hydrocephalic heads, baboon muzzles, and teardrop shaped eyes of Precious Moments, now that the figurines come in the larger garden size.

Saturday, saturday, saturday! Race race!
(context for mods) let's see... ELF... elves... races in fantasy and science fiction:
No. Trolls
Look at that troll. Isn't it Qt?
are completely different creatures from hobbits and elves.
let's see... among (semi) intelligent roughly-humanoid races, the fantasy multiverse has at least humans, dwarves, elves, hobbits, ents, weebles, smurfs, cyclopes, gnomes (pronounced g; 90 cm tall), gnomes (silent g; 15 cm tall), trolls, orcs, merfolk, selkies, marsh-wiggles, nerdlucks, jawas, tuskens, wookiees, ewoks, teeks, borrowers, morlocks, and eloi.
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday! Watch the Race Race at the Motor Speedway!
Be there.

Does Precious Moments own a TM on SD characters?
>Senior Moment
Precious, precious.Speaking of "Precious" and "Moment", what exactly does Precious Moments Inc. own? I understand it owns a trademark on the phrase "PRECIOUS MOMENTS" in many markets and a sculpture copyright on the specific appearance of each of the figurines, but does it own any monopoly on the slightly more general concept of super deformed (SD) characters with teardrop-shaped eyes?

Trade secret law
Umm, if there were no copyright law, there wouldn't be any proprietary products in the first place.
Yes there would; they'd just be protected under trade secret + contract law rather than copyright law. Copyright infringement cases are generally civil cases, and damages usually don't top five figures per work infringed. Trade secret cases, on the other hand, carry even bigger damages, plus jail time for all involved.
Being against this ruling and against copyright law is not hypocritical. Being for the ruling and against copyright law is.
I agree with many of the general principles of copyright, and I agree with this ruling, but I don't agree with the specifics of the implementation of copyright in the United States. For instance, I don't agree with the anti-circumvention provisions of the DMCA as interpreted in recent cases (the courts have flatly ignored many of the exceptions), and I don't agree with life+70 copyright terms. I also don't like companies whose products teach a message of sharing but who do not themselves share (i.e. license to individual webmasters under reasonable terms) their own IP. Does that make me a hypocrite?

(OT)Precious Moments bodily fluids?
precious bodily fluids
Are the bodily fluids of the Eloi people (i.e. the people that H. G. Wells wrote about in The Time Machine and which are also depicted in Precious Moments figurines) significantly different in composition from those of a typical A.D. 2001 American?

Re:Butcher Damn You're Dumb
BSD is NOT open source. it doesn not meet the open-source license critera as designed by bruce perins.
But the BSD License, version 2.0, does meet Eric S. Raymond's Open Source Definition (the Debian free software guidelines are nearly identical) as well as being a non-copyle ft GPL-compatible free software license according to Richard M. "Goat ScanDisker" Stallman
(Yes, the name of the god of the Eloi is Butcher.) -
Except Qt is copylefted.
Because Free Qt is copylefted (choice of QPL or GNU GPL), companies still have to pay the Trolls to be able to port their proprietary winsoftware to free*n?x. GTK+ on the other hand, is lesser copylefted under LGPL; it will be more popular for proprietary apps such as your precious games.

Patents still useful for a couple things
Without patents, there would be no incentive to create new synthetic pharmaceuticals. Without new drugs, new diseases will run rampant, and only the cutest humans will survive.
Someday all moments will be precious moments.

Did you say H.G. Wells?
"Morlocks" is one of the two future races from H. G. Wells's The Time Machine (which I've mirrored). Morlocks look like orcs from Tolkien's LotR. Their main diet is people of the Eloi race, who look like those figurines your wife/sister/aunt collects.
But all this may be OT, as the time traveller from the story went past AD 52,001 all the way to AD 802,701.

(Half OT)In 52001, what will we look like?
Several futurists have speculated on what the human race will look like in the future, and they have come up with:
- Larger heads to hold larger brains, with facial features moved downward.
- Smaller bodies, as machines take over more of the work.
- Larger eyes to see more clearly. With the way the human skull is constructed, this may result in a teardrop shape created by the eyeball and the upper eyelid.
- Vegetarian digestive systems as the health fad gains momentum.
- Excessive cuteness: only the cutest babies will be cared for by The Man, meaning only the cutest babies get to pass on their genes.
Make sure to take this into account when designing content for the space capsule's CD-ROM collection.

(OT)Names don't mean jack. Take Sam Butcher.
Samuel J. Butcher is famous for his insanely cute drawings of Eloi kids. These drawings became the PRECIOUS MOMENTS® figurines.
Now what do Precious Moments haters wish they could do to those kids? Butcher them.

Vote Precious Moments!
The world of Precious Moments is "a world with only healthy, cheerful, smart and attractive inhabitants." Vote YES to Precious Moments!
Seriously, futurists have hypothesized that we are evolving larger brains (and associated larger heads). Because our machines do more of our work for us, we can get by with smaller bodies. And with overpopulation, competition for the opposite sex is becoming fierce; teardrop-shaped eyes tend to attract chicks. Someday all our moments will be...
PRECIOUS MOMENTS®.

This only means Germans will contribute to Wine
So unbundling is now legal in Germany, what about Microsoft no longer selling anything in Germany?
How is that a bad thing? Computers will come with a BSD or GNU/Linux system installed on the HD. If the Deutsch want their precious Winblowz apps, software developers will contribute to Wine.
what if
... Billy says "Naw, screw it, I'll just close the company instead."Again, how is that a bad thing?

Which means the Precious Moments kids...

Why BSD uptimes are longer
BSD has much longer average uptimes than Linux
Only because BSD systems are often dedicated workstations or servers. GNU/Linux has a higher fraction of users who dual-boot because they can't afford vmware to run their precious Windows games.

When it's ready for initial public release... ;-)
Enjoy the precious moments of Slashdot while you can. Then... ...it will have a nearly circular head (twice as big as a human head proportion-wise) with teardrop-shaped eyes. There will be four short fingers (plus opposable thumb) and several other features engineered to be ultra-cute and attractive for new "parents" to buy. In short, they'll look like these guys.
