Re:Good news, bad news, worse news
Bad news - this likely won't mean it gets a lock on its position any quicker, due to technical reasons. Essentially, the device has to listen for a few seconds to receive the complete signal.
Worse news - each network will require its own proprietary chip, so increased access to GPS networks will come with increased cost, complexity, heat and power issues.
Good news -- you have been misinformed. Single chip GPS/Galileo IC with sub-1-second acquisition and similar power usage to current GPS-only chips.

Re:Make Copying Legal
Derivatives works are fair use, not an exclusive right of the copyright holder. If that were the case, there would be no remixes.
Oh really?. I remember this quite well, permission was needed from the estate or else nada. So it appears artistic freedom and creativity is actually impaired by overly long copyright terms.

Re:Consider this
Well, I am sure BMS also paid about taxes which probably comes to around 20% off their sales profit. As an added bonus, they helped countless cancer patients many of whom are Americans.
A round of chemotherapy with Taxol[pdf] costs thousands of dollars while BMS has been able to produce a dose of Taxol for less than a dollar. And what taxes BMS pays the US only comes from US sales, they don't pay US taxes on their worldwide sales. Not that they should but if you limit earning to only the US for US taxes you're cutting how much tax they do pay. The US could have gotten a better deal by requiring BMS to pay a royalty say of 50% then not taxing the income from the sale of Taxol. Many more American would have been saved if the data needed had been open sourced, or allowed anyone who agreed to pay a royalty to use the data. Then you would of had more than one company fighting for market share by lowering costs.

I was right on the trend, but not on the numbers. Please see this link for details.

Got WaveTop? :)
I think you have many options while waiting for the fat cats to get to you.- *IF* your satellite companys has the feature, use only their downlink-- but uplink with a land phone (little to no latency).
- Get a T1.. there not as expensive as the past and I believe the phone company will put them anywhere there are paved roads.
- You probably have enough pots wiring to have at least 4 phone lines at once. Find out if any isp in the area (or any with reasonable 800's which are not in the area) handle: 'Load Balancing', which is a feature that combines your several regular phone lines into one, which can be as fast or faster than isdn.
- There are probably alot of other people frustrated 'out there' as well. Get together with them and start your own little wireless isp..maybe even charge new people a few bux.
- And last but not least, should you get realllly desperate (or board).. Remember this?

In the interest of stimulating more informed discussion, here is a link to a press release from Microsoft commending the Turkish and Moroccan authorities, as well as the FBI, for their prompt arrest of the suspects.

You think you Americans are embarrassed???The UK didn't even submit any results... ostensibly because not enough schools bothered to test their pupils, but secretly, I believe it was because the results would have been far too embarassing for our Labour government, especially in the run up to next year's general election as Tony Blair built his entire previous campaign upon the slogan "Education, Education, Education"...
The UK's failure to provide enough data for the study was criticised by teachers' representatives and characterised by opposition parties as shocking and even suspicious.
