why do people buy shitty products?I always find it interesting to know that a lot of people seem to take the "default" route and go with mp3 providers that use this sort of crap. I buy my tunes off DJ specific websites like:
I've never once had an mp3 delivered in anything but it's pure non drm laden form. also available are
.wav and .flac, multiple bitrates, package deals etc. It stuns me that people would actually pay for such files from the likes of microsoft or apple, why?I guess DJ specific music has to be provided this way(i would never accept any limitations on my files as a DJ such as not being able to burn or transfer them between machines, this is essential to our work), but is it really impossible to purchase something like a beatles boxed set from other sources than itunes?

Now of course you have to like electronic music for those links to be useful. For used and out of print I go to Ebay obviously, or also GEMM That serves most of my needs right there. Someone else around here will post a link to CD Baby, I just did a quick search and my results made me uncertain....
So that's what I'm into, covers some fast trance, and slow downtempo chill and ethic flavor and a lot of world-wide creativity in there. Of course there's a lot more out there, but most of it doesn't interest me enough to really follow it and this grouping of stuff is enough to meet most of my needs...
And for RIAA music, I'm sure everyone know where to download their favorite stuff so that you're not supporting the evil beast (okay I kid I kid, no seriously LOL)... -
Re:Slashdotters, please go buy something
No thanks. It's great they're selling DRM-free music, but the fact remains that EMI and other major labels don't offer any music that I'm interested in buying. I don't download or listen to anything from them. I switched to underground independent music a long time ago and I probably won't go back. I like it more. (see psyshop for example, fast shipping and then I rip to FLAC and can convert to Apple lossless if I want to put it on an iPod) And another thing, paying for lossy compression sucks IMO. I see this news as a positive step, but not enough for me to open my wallet.

same for romania.
I live in Romania. the situation here is as close as rusia. Avarage sallary is WAY low.. in the lines of $100 - $150.. well there are extremly welthy people too but the avarage joe duznt make more then $150. I have no clue how MS expects to sell windows xp for $200 when a new top of the line vid card is at the same price wich would be a great replacement for my almost 2years old geforce4mx440 card, and a pirated winxp sp2 coroprate cd comes at as little as $1. Another problem is lack of software in stores.. the only piece of software you can get here is MS products.. windows xp/me/9x, office, and visual studio(costing in the lines of $1500 or somethin) what should we do? order outside the country? you mean next to software cost wich is this high we should chip in the transport, taxes - this presuming you'd have a way of paying internationaly. Regarding music.. i for one like psytrance. there's no way you can get any cd here. order from http://www.psyshop.com/ you tell me? well.. not any good either.. a cd's price is about $16 + transport it will get pretty high. well this presuming you can provide a form of paymant accepted my the site.. (most people here dont have international credit cards or cant use other serivces without paying alot) you guys are crying about $16 per cd? how about $25 or so wich is the price u probably get after all expenses. I have no doubt of the quality of the material in this case and i'd gladly pay it if i'd be able to afoard it. Some idiot was stating earlyer that if you dont wanna pay for the content dont get it. How about if you cant aford it? We should be deprived of all music/movies/software just coz we're not as rich as other people?

Re:2 for 1 Napster cards
It all depends on the music. If all 30 songs are the same tired top 40 formulaic crap they tend to peddle, then $15 doesn't sound like such a good deal then.
I know taste is subjective and there is no accounting for style. FWIW, I've ordered many CDs from PsyShop at PsyShop. The prices are not bad, the music is excellent, and the shipping was very quick considering it had to cross an ocean to reach me.
Maybe another way to state this, is that I've taken great offense to how the RIAA and the major labels have handled the whole situation. From now on I don't buy from them, even if it means I have to send my entertainment dollors overseas... so be it then.
And before someone tries to reverse my tired formulaic comment back onto what I listen to. My style is goa trance from approx 1995-2000. Good stuff. To bad a lot of it has gone out of print and impossible to buy any more. I do think that a lot of the new goa/psytrance style has lost its heart and soul and is too lacking in actual music, complexity. Like it got dumbed down and now its boring and simplistic enough that many acts are getting popular. -
some psy DJ's still spin vinyl...
I play psy from vinyl and CD. The DAT dj's are dinosaurs now - most of the DAT dj's have moved over to CD. Some psy DJ's play out from MD or MP3, but they generally aren't beat-mixing, just selecting and cross-fading. The best online stores for Psy Trance are Chaos Unlimited and Psyshop Both have sample to listen to before buying. But the best way to experience this music is at 4am on a moonlit beach somewhere warm, with the smell of chai and nag champas rolling through the dancefloor and big scary baselines that make you believe monsters still roam the earth...

Re:Astral Projection
Psychedelic trance may not be for everyone, but you should give it a go. Check out psyshop.com for some of the latest tunes - lots of realaudio samples too.
Personally recommended albums:
Dancing Galaxy - Astral Projection
A Progress in Trance - compiled by DJ Anti
Trancentral 5 - mixed by Mark Allen
The Great Unknown - Koxbox
And if theres *any* way you can get hold of it:
F.A.C.T. 1 - mixed by Carl Cox - though its leaning towards hard house / techno -
Try these...
I personally like the online store provided by Dragonfly Records. Dragonfly has a lot of REALLY good material in their store.
Also good is PsyShop.com, an online store where you can buy all sorts of stuff associated with Psychadelic types of electronic music. CDs, Shirts, 12-inchers, you name it.
I personally recommend to everybody that they check out the artists Prana, Shakta, and Transwave, but that's just because of my natural leanings towards psy and goa trance. Also worthwhile is DJ Tiesto, who was once regarded as the greatest Trance DJ of the year; although I forget which year that was. ;)
And, as somebody has suggested, DigitallyImported is one of the best Electronic Music streams available. They actually broadcast a variety of streams, including Trance (128k, 56k, 40k, 24k), Hard Trance (128k, 56k, 40k, 24k), Hard House (128k, 56k, 24k), and Eurodance (128k, 56k, 40k, 24k); they even stream classical music--which bothers me for some reason.
Anyhow, hope you find that information useful.
