http://news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=803This is what should have been Gears of Wars for Playstation 3.
Unfortunately, Microsoft took over the role as the publisher, and one doesn't have to be too surprised that the PS3 was no longer pursued.
Those 2005 images from the video just screams that Epic should have pursued an all platform strategy.
Too bad that there is a Microsoft around.

Re:Open source and standards ftw!
Bullshit.
With HD-DVD dead, we know all sales of the Xbox 360 are for games.
But with Blu-ray pulling ahead, and stories like Samsung being sued for defective players reminding us that the PS3 is the only forwards-compatible Blu-ray player, you can't help but wonder how many PS3s are being used as Blu-ray players.
Thankfully Sony knows the answer: 87%.
So subtract 87% of the PS3 market, and you have a much better idea of how many PS3s are being used for gaming. Which really doesn't paint the Xbox 360 is that bad a light.
The current sales bump is solely due to Blu-ray. The analysts know it and Sony knows it. The PS3 is dead as a gaming platform and was still-born as an online gaming network. -
Re:Why would Sony drop the price?Since when is PS3 gaining market share? every months NPD numbers that I've seen show a fairly consistant ratio of PS3360wii, with the ratio within any given month fluctuating based on game releases. Which would be great if the PS3 were being bought as a games console. Unfortunately for Sony, it isn't: its sales are because it's a Blu-ray player.
The current PS3 bundle available is the 40GB PS3 with Spiderman 3. The bundle with the game has been discontinued.
Sony themselves admit that 87% of PS3 owners use it for a Blu-ray player.
The PS3 has managed to keep its market share by being a Blu-ray player, and only by being a Blu-Ray player. People are buying it to play movies - NOT to play games!
This is why Sony has discontinued all models with PS2 backwards compatibility and Circuit City is currently selling the 40GB model with the Blu-Ray remote for free.
Remove those people using the PS3 solely as Blu-ray player, and you see the truth: a much bleaker outlook for the PS3 than the NDP numbers would suggest. -
Other info
This story would also be a good time to mention that the Wii continues to outsell the PS3 7-or-8 to 1 in Japan, on a week-by-week basis.

Bad assumptions on sony's partHere is Sony's plan to dominate the Game Console market:
- Wait for Blu-Ray to plow HD-DVD in this round of 'format wars'.
- Wait for all of the games to come out that will make people want to pay the extra money for a PS3 vs an XBox.
- Don't stand where the comet is assumed to strike oil (/salute Scott Adams).
You don't need netcraft to tell you the PS3 is essentially stillborn. Their sales are 50% lower than expected. Right now Microsoft is beating Sony at it's own game (high end console for hardcore gamers) and Nintendo is running unopposed in it's niche (middle-end console for casual gamers).

Re:Meh...
eBay moguls could always buy a 360 to actually play games. Best Buy will offer Xbox 360 launch day deals for PS3 campers who did not get their prize. http://news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=3341

Re:Maybe I missed something....
Interesting that so many people are saying the 360 isn't selling well. The information that is published appears to indicate... "The system looks likely sell 6 million units by the end of June 2006, and from 10 to 12 million by the end of the year." This information came from "Research analyst P.J. McNealy, as reported by Next Generation." URL: http://games.kikizo.com/news/200603/002.asp
Now, that's ignoring the Japanese market where the 360 has positively -bombed-: "The Xbox 360 managed to sell only 1,203 units from Feb. 20 - 26 in a report from Media Create." Source: http://news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=2101 -
Sony makes a good point: We need more gikkicks!
That is right; the PSP must be a superior product. The DS is a stupid toy gimmick for only blind mutes. We should put them in cereal boxes for those people who ride the short bus. I bet they will like that.
How about we take the DS and put little messages on them and drop them over the starving children in Africa, with gimmicky statements like "cheer up! just try not to think about food!"
I think Sony might be on to something here. On the other hand, the PSP is just a boring old game system. Maybe if they had made it a little more gimmicky they could even outsell the DS: http://news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=1223
