Re:entertainment center
No. And don't expect it any time soon. You even still need to buy a license from them to enable the hardware decoder for MPEG-2 (and VC-1) despite all the patents have already expired on February 13, 2018 and can be used freely.
So if you want to enable the hardware MPEG-2 decoder in your RPi you must use a hack.
What keeps me from buying the far superior OrangePi is that LibreElec still doesn't support it.

Re:Not really that relevant anymore.
I'm hoping the £2.40 fee for unlocking MPEG2 on Raspberry Pi goes away soon.

Re: Scalable hardware???
This is similarly done with the Raspberry Pi family.
Of course, I find this significantly more palatable, as a) the whole computer only cost $35, and b) I think it's due to some licensing agreement with a separate entity (Broadcom). -
Re:sudo apt-get install wine
A few corrections:
- Java does run on the Pi: http://www.oracle.com/technetw...
- StarOffice, in the form of LibreOffice does too: http://store.raspberrypi.com/p...You aren't going to anything amazing of the Pi, but if your expectations are low (in terms of performance) and your budget even smaller, then it will do the job.

Let's see...
Not sure about the x86 issue.
DosBox runs just fine on Android and RaspberryPi.
Indeed, I've tested several ol'times masterpieces on the former, and it worked all very well (with Genuine Tears(TM)). -
Game dev
I used mine to port my game to the platform.
The GPU is really fast and can do 1920x1080@30fps for moderately complex scenes.

Re:It's open! But with proprietary drivers.
I'm assuming HD refers to hardware decode. That is on the Broadcom chip, it just has to be licensed separately. They have it on their web store for 2.40 pounds. http://www.raspberrypi.com/mpeg-2-license-key/

Can you actually buy these things?
Their site http://www.raspberrypi.com/ has had the same "Down for Maintenance" message for at least a month. Is it actually possible to purchase one of these (in the US)?

Warning !
Remember, the 1st batch of 10000 Raspberry Pi boards will ONLY be available from http://www.raspberrypi.com/ (you can order some nice stickers in the meantime)
Be aware that scam sites (like http://www.systemsofhull.co.uk/raspberry-model-p-261.html) have begun to pop-up.
