Re:Article from a biased company
"When they're a company that exclusively promotes the use of RSS, it seems a bit self-righteous; moreover, presumptuous that Google is simply writing off Atom."
No kidding, given the rest of the facts:
Microsoft already stated that they would be using xml namespaces to add to RSS. Which is exactly what Dave Winer who published RSS 2.0 intended. Microsoft actually consulted Dave before getting very far too. Quote: "Anyway, there's a lot more to what they're doing, but I wanted to say in advance that I think what they're doing is cool. "
Additionally, Microsoft has stated support for Atom as well.

Re:Bye, bye RSS ....
It's not embrace and extend when the guy that created the RSS standard (Dave Winer), has a post up today about how Microsoft specifically asked him if it would be ok to extend the spec before going down this path and how he thought this would be a good addition to the RSS spec.

From the article: "The story begins in March of this year. I got a call from Robert Scoble saying there was a group on the MSIE team that wants to extend RSS to handle lists. I was immediately supportive of this, I told Scoble that some people think I'm conservative about extending RSS, but I'm actually liberal. The only thing I don't like is when people invent new ways of expressing data that RSS already defines. He assured me this isn't what was going on." -

Amazon's OpenSearch or Gene Kan's OpenSearch?
To paraphrase David Spade:
I liked OpenSearch better the first time, when it was called...OpenSearch! -
Re:This is already being doneiPodder is doing the same, currently for radio (or podcasts). But the system could just as easy be used for television.
Here's the RSS Module for adding bittorrent to RSS 2.0.

Re:outliers...
BTW - if you are trying to attract more folks with more convenient webpages (i.e. one doesn't have to scroll the browser just to view your content), here are two more personal tips.
1. Use RSS. I started TODAY and have fallen in lust.
2. Don't use Flash. I haven't installed Flash on Firefox for I find it annoying.
The second point is more controversial, I understand. But perhaps someone agrees?
