Re:Where is the fun?
Dude, you need to try DCS: BlackShark or DCS: A-10C full flight simulators. Nothing dumbed about those puppies. If they're too undumb for you then try LockOn Modern Air Combat or rFactor for car racing. And it that is still too hard core then try Armed Assault II. If you can't take that then get a Wii.

Re:It's different
It is actually a very expensive version of rFactor.
You can buy rFactor from here: http://www.rfactor.net/
IndyCar and Nascar drivers use http://www.iracing.com/
You can play both in your PC, not in a playstation.

Re:Cheating AI
Need for Speed, isn't a simulator, it's arcade. Although more recently with Carbon, and Undercover, a lot of the cars are day-to-day drivers, but you can still plow into a wall and drive away, and excluding cop spikes, you wont get a flat tire or blow an engine (except maybe in the drag races).
Simulators, like GTR/Race/Evo, Live For Speed, rFactor or TORCS either come with, or are available as downloads after, normal day to day cars, likewise most flying sims have Cessna's and ultra-lights which some people do use daily/weekly/monthly...
And generally most people with a bit of extra cash (usually couple hundred dollars, sometimes they go on insurance + per-lap basis), who lives near a race track, can go race their car, someone elses car, and depending on the track, rent a car, which sometimes does include Ferrari's et al.

Re:Sounds pretty pointless
> What else would you suggest?
Any of the several PC racing sims: rFactor, Live for Speed, or anything by SimBin, such as GT Legends or one of the GTR or WTCC Race games. -
Re:Sounds pretty pointlessThe closest games I have played are the seminal Grand Prix Legends and GTR2. GPL was the most unforgiving simulation ever - but that was half the fun.
This guy drivers (or used to) in the FIA GT 3 championship and plays driving sims. It is awesome to see his real life racing videos and videos from a racing simulation (rFactor in this case).
Personally, this fascinates me.

rFactor by ISI games
While rfactor (a racing simulation) was released last year by ISI games, this year has seen some very good mods released for this simracing platform, like the ETCC03 mod (European touring cars) and lately the brilliant F1 1979 mod, bringing all cars of the F1 1979 season to rfactor at no additional cost. Also, a great "current" F1 season has been created by the community, so if you're into racing sims, this is the one title to check out.
More about rfactor can be seen here: http://www.rfactor.net/
All the best, uwe -

check out rFactorThis phenomenon isn't only limited to online / offline role playing games, but has found its manifestation in the simracing world as well: rFactor is an open racing simulation where the developers (ISI of F1 Challenge fame) actively encourage and support community mod development and involvement, be it in the creation of new cars or racing tracks.
While rFactor hasn't yet taken the simracing world by storm, it's a very interesting contender, given the "moddability" and mod track record of previous ISI titles.
