Re:The Difference
Where as the people living under the CCP have no such freedom to information
As opposed to people living under the GOP having no mass media coverage of their country's war crimes. -
Re:TERRORISM IS FUD PERIODYou can find it one many websites on google by typing 'ummat bin laden', but here is a random link.
The most interesting part of the interview
:I have already said that I am not involved in the 11 September attacks in the United States. As a Muslim, I try my best to avoid telling a lie. I had no knowledge of these attacks, nor do I consider the killing of innocent women, children and other humans as an appreciable act. Islam strictly forbids causing harm to innocent women, children and other people. Such a practice is forbidden even in the course of a battle.
How not having a two-party system would change anything? In my country (France) you always have like 16 parties for each presidential election so in the end it's the less divided side that wins, not the most popular. So I like the american two-party system because at least the result of the elections show the trend more accurately.
Btw you get that bin Laden interview quoted in that documentary Loose Change 9/11. Good documentary, plus it's the only video i've ever seen mentionning that interview, for some mysterious reason, that interview isn't very widely known. I wonder whether it's because it was a newspaper interview or because he said that he didn't do it that nobody cared about that interview, i'll go for the first option tho.

Re:Meet the new boss...same as the old bossThis is completely off-topic, but you are just simply wrong:
Really? I thought the invasion rested on Saddam continuation to break UN resolutions time and time again. Should we just not invade and thus not inforce these resolutions? Do you prefer a nice slap on the wrist to and from a bunch of corrupt beurocrats?
You pretend that there were only two options: invade or ignore Iraq completely. In fact there was a much better option, to enforce the resolutions using sanctions and inspections. In case you haven't noticed, sanctions actually worked, and achieved their goal without producing huge number of flag-drapped coffins.
Second, Saddam (his party to be exact whome he was a part of) was implicitly allied with al Qaeda as he aided and supported them. Did you not listen to Bush durring his address to the nation?
Factually wrong, pure and simple. Saddam Hussein had no links with Al-Quaida, as was proven by 9/11 commision. Bush lied during his address to the nation (if you look at the video, you'll see that Bush's lips are moving, which means he is lying).
Third, we did not invade Iraq per say. We invaded Saddam and his supporters.
Bullshit. We murdered innocent civilians, like for instance these Iraqi children. I'm sorry, but 10 year old children aren't part of Saddam's government.
And wow! did they come out in droves to vote dispite the weekly car bombings and threats.
If you really take those "elections" seriously, read this.
And weekly car bombings means they hate us so much that they are actually willing to attack us with car bombs. I know that there's a lot of cultural misunderstanding going on, so let me clear this up for you: in Iraqi culture blowing up someone with a car bomb means you dislike them. It's not some form of holliday fireworks, but rather a statement that they want you dead - as expressed by their attempt to kill you. Similarly, the act of, say, shooting at you with AK-47 does not mean they tried to fire in the air to congratulate you and missed.
To put it simply, if they try to kill you it means they want you dead, and that means they dislike you. I know it's kind of hard to interpret at first, but Iraq is pretty similar to Vietnam in this regard. -
Does anyone see this problem?
This microwave device is going to be used in Iraq. What of all the language barriers between iraqi's and the people using these devices? What if they do not understand or more likely, are not even told to remove glasses, coins etc before being fired with this weapon? More seriously, why is it being tested on them? like they are the lab animals... Think of what that means! Already, DU is causing havoc among them and many independent studies support the link between DU and the birth defects etc. in Iraq. Ofcourse, DoD denies everything when even the veterans believe the link exists. So, what if this microwave damages brains of iraqi's or kills a few? DoD denies it and weapon continuously is used in Iraq. And this on top of the iraqi children being shot up indiscriminately(http://robert-fisk.com/articles4
1 9.htm) and the iraqi prisoners being abused barbarically(http://robert-fisk.com/articles509.ht m). Given the track record, i hope to GOD that they will not use it in Iraq, so that the iraqi's are spared some more agony. slightly off topic but... Would any american condone it, if the MP fired missles in a market to kill a serial killer who is thought to be there on an 'anonymous' tip and 13 other innocent people die in the missle attack? How can ANYONE condone it? and yet people are supporting this very scenario in Iraq. Why the double standard? WHY NOT RESPECT LIFE EVERYWHERE BE IT ARAB OR ASIAN OR BLACK? -

Re:Wow, very balanced interview
I agree with you that higher ranking USMIL people probably have an axe to grind with respect to Seymour Hersch, but you should also be aware that he's widely considered to be a conduit for leaks from some CIA elements and he hasn't been doing any actual on-the-ground investigative journalism in recent years as compared to Robert Fisk who is one of the few Western journalist to have interviewed Osama bin Laden, has actually physically visited the places that he reports on as a non-embedded (e.g. traditionally free agent) report, placing his own life at risk at times.
Yes, you can clearly see that he has a bias, but he's upfront about it and it's always clear in his writing which parts are his opinion and which are the factual experiences that he's recording.
With regard to Wikinews, I think that it's interesting that the "neutral" and "non biased" articles about (to take just one example) the Indonesian earthquake disaster don't mention the shenanigans going on over the withholding of disaster relief to "rebel" strongholds in Aceh and the request from representatives of the "rebels" that international aid is not delivered into the hands of the government. This is covered in one of the few independent and courageous news sources these days: Amy Goodman's "DemocracyNOW!" radio program. Here's a sample from January 7th:
Indonesian Military Beats Acehnese, Bars Journalists Meanwhile, Australian journalists who witnessed a confrontation between Indonesian soldiers and Acehnese yesterday were ordered to leave the area and warned not to report on the incident. The incident occurred just 25 miles from the provincial capital Banda Aceh, the centre of the relief operation spearheaded by US and Australian forces in Aceh. Government soldiers fired into the air and beat up Acehnese they claimed were supporters of the Free Aceh Movement, known as the GAM. The incident prompted special forces Kopassus soldiers to confront The Australian's representatives in the area. A Kopassus Commander told the journalists, "Your duties here are to observe the disaster, not the conflict between TNI (the Indonesian army) and GAM. Kopassus ordered the Australian journalist and photographer to leave. The Indonesian military has killed thousands of Acehnese in the conflict. Aceh has been under martial law and sealed off for years. The Kopassus are infamous for their extreme brutality during the occupation of East Timor.
If Wikinews isn't reporting this sort of stuff in order to avoid appearing "contentious" then it's providing a misleading picture of the actual physical facts of the world. Not very impressive.

Re:Oh Goodie
US troops are quite capable of killing innocent people without any help from Saddam's regime. Your so called 'smart' weapons still do this, this and this.
Your precious OIL is not worth ONE childs life. 'Colateral Damage'??!? WTF? Get real.
You stupid patriots seem to ignore the fact that Iraq is ENERGY POLICY not a humanitarian effort to relieve the population of Iraq from a brutal dictator. Why don't you go and google riverbend and see what a REAL Iraqi thinks about the US OCCUPATION.
Whilst I sympathise with poor soldiers who give their lives for something they believe in, it makes me cry to think that they are the victims of an evil and dishonest regime - ie the USG. Just remember: it takes two to make a lie.
Answer me this: Who PUT Saddam in power in the first place? Do you really understand? Who IGNORED the gassing of civilians when it suited them? Who continues to THIS DAY to interfere and meddle in the affairs of other countries FOR THEIR OWN FINANCIAL BENEFIT?
Wake the fuck up. -
Re: Technology? TECHNOLOGY??
Ironically, Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf's most famous alleged [self?] deceit was actually 100% true. When he claimed there were no American troops at Sadaam International Airport he was correct.
So al-Sahaf told the truth on camera at least once. I'm still investigating Rumsfeld. -
Re:If you repeat a lie often enough...What bothers me is when they hype up the story to the point where it's basically a rallying call for all of our enemies, and this is exactly what they did.
You're an idiot. Not to mention you are advocating USSR-like media censorship (by your logic the Soviet were 100% right to control Pavda, to avoid making a rallyig call to their enemies, the capitalists). Your "enemies" (who are they exactly?) don't get their news from the NYT. You'd be surprised by the fact that mistreatement of prisonners was well know. You know, they get out of jail and they just speak. Some journalists actually are interested by what they have to say. Well not American journalists. But apparently "American journalist" is an oxymoron these days, since according to you they should be "American flagwavers". I'm no longer surprised a whole bunch of Americans is turning to Milosevic-like fascist arrogant hyper-nationalism, but let's make the things clear:
THERE HAVE BEEN THINGS 100 TIMES WORSE THAN ABU GRAIVE IN IRAQ
Here is a small sample.
And, no the NYT didn't report much about them, and yes, the rest of the world, who didn't get its news from the Patriotic Official Governement Ultra Nationalistic Flag Waving TVs and Journals knew there well about it, and that's why actually no one was surprised about Abu Graib elsewhere. Human rights abuse started right from Guatanamo, or even before, when thousands of Taliban prisonners were summarily executed by American allies, without a word from US. And this was well known.
In fact US has effectively surrendered to the terrorists, by blowing off 3,000 atrocious deaths out of proportion and making them the first and prime election issue (hint: during Bush mandate, about 15,000,000 Americans have died).
It was just the irresponsible actions of a few, which are currently being punished.
Irresponsibility started when an idiot started a war on facts that were wrong. You can't get more irresponsible. In most countries, this is at best resignation, at worst martial court and execution.
And that's why, at this point, in November, I'll be voting AGAINST Kerry and the far left.
Be a Nazi. Let it invade countries on false pretense, be it Poland or Iraq, and then moronically wave your flag, and praise your Duce, Leader Maximo, Fuhrer or Commander In Chief (whatever you call him these days), and sing how much your country is superior to all others and is bring them civilized life, and continue to be arrogant. US is 5% of the world population ; it went from 50% of world GDP in 1945 to 22% of world GDP nowadays - this is the end of the road, go on.

Re:Why not?
Actually, that's about as true as the "Powdered milk factory being a chemical weapons plant" story and the "throwing babies from incubators" story. Have you taken the time to look at pictures taken from people in Iraq during Saddam Hussein's rule? Heck, even a lot of the casualty photos, such as this famous one show bearded men. Do you not even remember the shot of the bearded man in a lot of photos who, according to a popular web conspiracy, is the same person who was shown arriving with Ahmed Chalabi and as one of the "normal Iraqis" tearing down the statue in Firdos Square? Shots of bearded Iraqis are all over the place, and are even in some of the most famous shots from the war, so if this wasn't *pure* myth, it was mostly myth.

Some of the photos (and links to more) you wanted
Don't show them to conservaties, they'll tell you they're all "faked."

Re:bin laden..
"Personally neither I nor my brothers saw evidence of American help." -- Osama bin Laden
When he brought his 9,000 Arab fighters to support the Afghans in their conflict against the Soviet occupation army, hacking out the mountain trails with his construction equipment, building hospitals and arms dumps, he became a war hero. ... He and his comrades never saw "evidence of American help" in Afghanistan, he told me, but he must have been aware of the CIA's presence. -- Robert Fisk
And, at risk of alienating those who automatically assume Fox News to lie about everything...
