Yeah, I noticed that
I've been putting movie reviews on my web page for a while now, and I've increasingly noticed that google will point people at them even though they search for stuff that isn't on the page. For example, I've had a number of hits where people search for 'AvP review' (or suchlike) and even though I never include the phrase 'AvP' in my review of Aliens vs Predator.
I was mightily impressed, and not just because it means more people read my stuff. Or at least surf to it. -
Re:Good!
And yet it feels like you support the 2 hour distortion of a politcal ad that is Farenheight 9/11
Not really. Supposing there were no limit; given the egregious [right|left]-wing bias of the media, it's be entirely possible to putting out stuff portraying Bush as a [leader|chimp] and Kerry as a [flop-flipper|guy with a plan]. Television would be totally unwatchable for months at a time. Oh, wait...
I'm tired of laws being passed and judgements being made because its not going "thier way" whoever they might be at the time
I'm utterly appalled at the number of people who support Bush just because he's their guy, irrespective of how much he's ruined democracy/freedom-o-speech/etc -
My thoughts...
That IMDB list is pretty bogus; there are a bunch of films with three stars on average. Plan 9 doesn't even get a mention. Good to see Robocop 3 and Highlander 2 on the list, even though some people obviously gave both more than no stars.
My nomination for worst movie ever? Armageddon. Damn, I hated that movie so much. People talk about Plan 9 being bad, but this is worse. If Ed Wood had been given godzillions of dollars for special effects, he'd have produced Armageddon.
Of course, it's possible that we'll never know what the worst movies are, cos we'll never see them. But of those that we do see, I'm more forgiving of dubious b-movies; if you've no budget, you've got to make do with what you have. But if your budget stretches to paying an actual actor, we can be more demanding; when you've got Titanic-level budgets, you've got no fucking excuse.
In case you care, movies I saw recently that sucked include Godsend, Twisted and The Day After Tomorrow. -

Re:Very Small number of planets
Not only is the number relatively small, but chances are it'll be easy enough to verify whether the other planets actually exist (to my mind). The planets, after all, are (we must assume) in stable orbits; the pattern won't change. With starspots, however, they're much more likely to be transitory in nature, and therefore over time it'll become obvious which are planets; the ones that aren't will disappear or move.
Of course, I'm assuming that starspots are like sunspots. I reckon it's a valid assumption, but what do I know?
Oh, and while I'm here, a plug. Check out my handy-dandy extrasolar planet page, where you can calculate travel times to the various planets discovered thus far. -
Re:This calls for a limerick...
You claim that though your words were written fast
They still have merit; I must disagree
A limerick is specific; if you passed
On proper forms, a limerick it won't be.
As for your plea that limericks shouldn't sum:
Again, I say the error lies with you.
A headline needn't be in headline form
Encapsulation's all it needs to do.
I'll say quite freely that your noble task
To give us poetry in troubled times
Is tricky and most selfless (if you ask
I too am guilty of egregious rhymes)
If cavilling upsets you, do not rage;
My reasons are lined out upon my page -
Drake calculation

Re:Interesting that I got rejected for this story
I know it's bad form to post links to one's own web site, but observe.

Re:Echoes of SeaQuest
I realize that you probably mis-spoke, but the phrase struck me as funny.
It struck me as funny too. Actually, I didn't misspeak (as such), but perhaps some clarification is in order. I believe absolutely that live exists elsewhere. Intelligent life, I'm not so sure about (the Drake Equation >= 10000 notwithstanding). The discovery of such life, be it on Europa, Ganymede or Minbar, is inevitable, given a long enough time scale. But if silicon-based life -- intelligent or otherwise -- were to be found, it'd go beyond coolness and come out the other side. It'd open up whole new vistas for science.
Finding ET live during my lifetime, btw, would cause me to be pleasantly surprised.
