Re:I used to block adsIndeed.
Here's an example from The Netherlands, the cost for commercials per car per brand: http://www.rtl.nl/components/financien/rtlz/2011/weken_2011/07/0218_1115_VW_geeft_per_auto_minst_aan_reclame_uit.xml
No doubt similar happens in other developed countries, look at the top five and cry for the savings you could have had:
Infiniti € 8.293
Dodge € 3.348
Lexus € 3.337
Lancia € 3.218
Jaguar € 2.788 -

President Bush is a threat to world peace: 56% agrees etc. Source btw, NIPO is one of the biggest poll institutions in Holland and has a very good reputation.

Similar story in Dutch supermarket
A similar thing happened a year ago in the Netherlands, where a Dutch 'cake'-maker* (for those who know Dutch: ontbijtkoek)
actually went to court so that they wouldn't be obliged to sell to a certain supermarket** anymore... (By the way, they won!)
Roel
* Peijnenburg was the 'cake'-maker;
** Albert Hein was the supermarket store.

Re:Under every rock
Some months ago we had a major explosion disaster in Belgium involving a natural gas line. 23 people were killed, tens of others severely burned and still recovering.
Slideshow here, picture 8 has the fireball:
http://www.rtl.nl/(/actueel/rtlnieuws/)/components /actueel/rtlnieuws/2004/07_juli/30/buitenland/slid eshow_belgische_fabriek.xml
First investigations revealed that the gas pipeline had been damaged by construction work for a service road to a new industrial building; the investigation and the legal proceedings regarding responsibility are continuing, and expected to last for another two years.
As a result of the accident people called for better plans of the infrastructure to avoid such disasters in the future.
Security by obscurity isn't going to work in this case.
AFAWK, no terrorists were involved. -
Re:New mugging toolGreat. Now muggers and pick pockets will be able to use technology to identify prime targets.
Actually, that's doubtful. RTLZ (don't bother clicking, it's in Dutch) reported today that the ECB is talking to Hitachi about ultra-small (invisible to the naked eye), ultra-lightweight (can't feel them either) chips to be embedded in notes in the future to prevent counterfeiting. However, these chips have nothing to do with RFID or any other wireless techniques or technologies -- these chips would just store an irremovable, 38-digit serial number that could be read with a special flatbed scanner (which would have to cover the bill; no remotely-operable affair).

Re:Potential european outtage map
I mean in dutch - rtlz is doing the story in dutch.
There is an emergency plan in place that would keep them running until the end of the month if customers pay their june fees in advance.
If you have a lot of money and want to have a state of the art network with REALLY dedicated people now is the time to buy!! -
Big brother, The BattleI am from the Netherlands. Big brother orignated from here. (It is from "john de mol"). Now we are going into the 3th season. It is called: BIG BROTHER / the battle. With the calling for new people some of the most extreme clips they got from various country's got shown. I expect a lot of nudity (what is not illegal here).
As for the pay per view: they tried it, but i suppose it was not that popular. the 2nd season was way less popular. (like someone said here , is it still on then?). So the pay per view will fade away.
I just expect a sort of Jerry springer alike soap. With the difference this takes 100 days.
But after 2 seasons Big Brother and 2season "de bus" (like big brother, but then in a bus) i think we all get bored by it.As for the "for adult" thing. Wouldn't the credit card to pay the 10$ block it. Why else are all those "Adult check" Web ages asking for a credit card no to validate the age. Not that i ever go there......
