Re:Those strings can't be right
In Dark Forces there was a code to show the map, and entering it multiple times would show more and more hidden features: powerups, enemies, hidden rooms etc. Some levels (the ice planet level - go to where the ship crashes, you'll need codes to do so - and the one that starts with you having to kill a monster with your bare hands - right at the beginning IIRC) had the faces of Sam and Max (from, uh, Sam n' Max) made out of hidden map features that would become visible with the code.
Only references I can access from work:

Seeing Lucasfilm made me excited, then sad.
I saw that and for a split second I thought I would be seeing more from the old company that brought us Zak McKracken and Maniac Mansion. Some of us still fondly remember the old adventure games.
I'm sick and tired of their recent obsession with 3d, it just doesn't look as good. I would love to see a 2d adventure game from them that would run natively at 1600x1200 and scale down to lower resolutions.
Can anyone honestly look and tell me that this 3d Sam & Max has more artistic style than this 2d Sam & Max??
Or this is better than this?
I'm not opposed to 3d games mind you, lord knows I didn't buy this Nvidia board for running OO.org faster and Grim Fandango was utterly phenomenal. I'd just like to see Lucasfilm games, lucasarts, whatever, spend more time in making a well written, well crafted worlds and games, rather than just "Wow, it's an adventure title, but in 3d!" -

Sam & Max
What article like this is complete without:
Sam and Max 2 I feel cheated looking through that article without seeing S&M there. -
Rejoice! Telltale games will bring you your pieSorry you missed the news but the guys who were developing the sequel left Lucasarts and created their OWN studio:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/10/01/news_61094 73.html.
And here's where it gets exicting, from the unofficial sam and max homepage:
Although the company is in negotiations for the license of another game, the trio said it is no secret that they want to develop the sequel to "Sam and Max" or something like it. An online petition in support of the canceled game incited the company's launch, they said.
"When we saw the petition and how upset people were, we knew we had to start Telltale Games," Bruner said.
LucasArts has a license for the game from the comic book's creator, Steve Purcell. That license expires in May, at which point Connors said he hopes to strike a deal with Purcell.
Purcell could not be reached for comment, nor could LucasArts spokeswoman Anne Marie Stein.

Re:Darl needs protection, does he?I wonder if Steve Purcell has noticed the striking similarity of Stitch from "Lilo and Stitch" to Sam from "Sam and Max"? (Or is it Max?!!)
I'm just sayin'....

Trade Paperback Available
More info about the series can be found here. A trade paperback exists, but I don't know where you can find it.

Will it be THIS sequel??
I was reading not long ago about a Sam and Max game that was slated for release on the X-Box, it was being developed by 'Infinite Machine', however their website hasn't been working for a long time, so perhaps they've gone under. In any case there was this article on ign about it, and this page about it on the unofficial website.
So is this game THIS game, or some other, completely unrelated Sam and Max game.
I'm betting that it's using work done on THAT game and expanding on it for this title.
In any case, I can't wait, I love the duo.
